I am thinking of posting some ranger builds I have found that work well here. Most of them are for PvE, but if you have any comments/questions/suggestions, feel free to post them.

I like Rangers, and they are often overlooked in what they can do. I see people who go for mesmers, and like green things, and post here :-p who say we can't shut them down, but watch when we make the impossible happen.

I am not at a comp with my GW up, but I love to talk strategy, so any thoughts are fun.

So ya told me. Now we need to make you see the truth about how cool they are! *Though we all know I use other classes too, each is good, I just like rangers for some reason*

I like interrupt builds, and they make good runners and trappers. Never really seen a Ranger capable of dishing out as much widespread damage as other classes which are more suited to it, hehe. They're a useful class, but like Mesmers they're not really essential to have on a team. They can make your job easier at times, but I think a few of you here tend to see them as capable of accomplishing any role.

Still, hearing some builds would be cool. I mostly stick with a basic interrupt build on my Ranger so I'd be interested to hear what those with more experience favour.

I think I need to show your my Barrage Build now that I have it figured all out Goto. Killed 10-12 Enchanted in 2 hits with it. Admittedly, it is barrage, so not a PvP build, but you would be surprised how good Rangers can be.

I dont play PvP at all really, so I could be wrong, but I would definitely argue about wanting a good ranger on a team. Thing is, by the logic you use for not having them, I could say any class is not needed. You have to remember that, yes, there is a counter to each build. Chances of someone having that counter vary though, usually they dont have enough of the needed build to counter to totally shut you down. But by the same token, same goes for you. And you can make each class accomplish a wide range of things, some better than others, true, but I know people who makes teams where they get rid of most common classes (ex. All Ritualist team that totally rocked) and still do great.

It's all in how you use what you have, and each class has a great deal to work with, and how lucky you get with the other teams setup.

So don't think I am saying Rangers are the class to end all classes, I just use them the most so I wanted to post some information to help people.

I don't PvP either, the stuff about them not being essential was more directed at my PvE experience. And I'd be happy to be proved wrong about Rangers lacking firepower against larger groups, it's just that's what I've observed when playing with Rangers, and by looking at the skills. Doesn't mean they're not capable of it, I just haven't personally seen rangers able to dish out as much damage to a mob as a nuker, or SS necros before they nerfed them.

A barrage ranger group is/was the fastest way to clear the majority of areas with an orders necro and a healer.
Also trapping is unbelievably fun
And rat if your looking for PvP R/W with a hammer and a pet = the bunny thumper essentials
Lots of knockdowns and a mini tank with your pet.. tis fun

In terms of pure damage, no, we are not going to be the ones to deal 200-300 damage in an AoE effect in one spell. But we can play almost any role to some degree. And while people may argue that cant beat the originals, we usually have a spin on it that is different.

But I agree, much hard to get pure damage with a ranger. But are a pain in the arse to kill and will easily widdle away your health. :-p

Hmm.. Well a group of Barrage-using rangers might well be an accepted way to clear out enemies fast, but it does occur that if you're going to dedicate most of your group to doing just that then there are other high-damage builds that could also cause massive damage quickly. I've seen how quickly mobs go down with two decent nukers, taking a group of 5 or 6 (along with two monks, to make up for the squishyness of Eles compared with Rangers) along of them would wipe out just about anything other than fire-resistant creatures, quite quickly. Actually that might be quite fun to try some time, Rangers would be a pain to kill but pretty much anything else would drop like flies.

Yeah. But again, to quote my jiu jitsu sensei, every move has a defense, and every defense has a counter, and every counter has a reversal, etc.... Just how you have your build set up. Like in a one on one fight against a nuker lets say, I could go as a barrager, and obviously die. But I could go as a conditions spreader. Then there would be trouble, etc. Don't get me wrong, I have no problems with softies :-p In fact, I have a monk, and tempted to make an ele too, just that I posted this since I talk to alot of people who dont see worth in rangers. *Not saying you, since I know you will be wary of them, even if they are not your style*

I would say we are the class that takes quite a bit of finesse to use to their full potential, would be a good way to put it.
