"Female players in RuneScape are subjected to nearly continuous harassment by the testosterone-overloaded teenaged hornballs who comprise the bulk of the game's players. This includes lewd comments, and being constantly asked if they "want a boyfriend." Many girls resort to playing as male characters just to keep their sanity."

"Exposed"? It's common knowledge f00!

Seems like the writer just put together a few other articles, and basic common internet knowledge

EDIT:Hah, I actually remember reading another article that had this, and I believe word by word
"Some consolation can be found in the fact that after a creature is killed, it will reappear ("respawn") a few moments later, which some players use to assuage their guilt. But does this just cheapen the concept of death further? And is a 10-year-old really mature enough to know?"
Although I must admit, the other article really detailed it, and included a story about this kid who played MMORPG for a long time, then later killed like all of 15 farm's animals, with a decorative sword.

So, in a nutshell, he's saying RuneScape is bad because:
1. It follows John Gabriel's Greater Internet !@#$wad Theory (foul language in link), heightened by the fact that most RuneScape players are middle/high school aged boys who act like, well, typical middle/high school aged boys.
2. It's advertised to children as an educational game.
3. He and his two kids play it.

This reminds me of the guy who wrote the Herald the other day complaining about how pro-peace demonstrators were "arrogant" in assuming that those who didn't share their views "hated" peace, and that if we left Iraq we'd wake up in the morning to find our women wearing burqas. I won't even try to respond to it because I don't know where to begin pointing out the inaccuracies and logical fallacies. For instance,

"Why does Jagex not get rid of these destructive items [expensive party hats] and all the problems they cause? They aren't saying."
Actually, they've said it several times. They don't want to piss off the people who've already spent ridiculous sums on this stuff.

Oh, and he talks about gambling too. Takes me back to good ol' 2000 when parents were complaining about those eeeeeevil "pokeman" (Pokémon) cards. Tell me again what came of those complaints? Nothing. Seven years later, you can still grab them at the checkstand of your local Target or Wal*Mart or whathaveyou. And that's where actual money is involved. At least with staking at the duel arena your kids aren't forking over more than $5 a month.

Conclusion: RuneScape is bad because parents don't know how to parent.
Those who will remember, will speak fondly of the warm morning breeze.

Awesome

This is why I always love these (insert game) is evil articles... especially ones on mmorpgs. They're funny and people take them seriously biglaugh.gif

But in his defense I figured his main point was the "it's an addicting waste of time" argument.

QUOTE
Sure, some of these activities happen to one extent or another in all online games. But RuneScape is child-oriented, with some players as young as five online.

They're not even supposed to own an account:
QUOTE(Terms and Conditions)
A SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT PRETEENS AND USERS UNDER 18
If you are under 13 years old, you must not create an account. We don't knowingly permit anyone under 13 to use this website. Nor do we knowingly collect any personally identifiable information from preteens. Internet safety experts have advised that preteens do not fully appreciate the risk of providing too much personal information online or communicating with strangers they encounter online. And the game difficulty level is for teenagers and older. While we appreciate that many preteens would want to use our websites, we urge parents to instruct their children not to lie about their age so as to be able to use our websites before they are old enough. Instead, we recommend that parents set up an account and play together with their preteens who are otherwise too young to play the Game. Many parents have reported that playing the Game as a family is fun and rewarding. Then when your children are 13 they will be ready for their own account.

But, seriously, I don't see how Jagex is supposed to watched those 9 million gamers constantly for 'bad behavior.'

WTF?

Ya, what if your parents hate video games and dont realy care. I have bought rated M or 17+ video games from stores with none of my parents in site. They didn't ask me for proof of age or what age I am. I like it though, becouse I dont whant me dad to be there saying crap about getting a rated T or E game like last time.

I want to get a job at Game stop so little 9 year olds can come in with their parents to buy things like GTA and Manhunt so I can remind the parents of all the stuff is in it.

...And then watch the kid as he secretly wants to murder me behind his mummies back. Most gratifying feeling in the world, I bet.
Overwhelmed as one would be, placed in my position.
Such a heavy burden now to be "The One".
Born to bear and read to all the details of our ending
To write it down for all the world to see.

I saw it happen to a kid at EBGames. He threw a hissy fit when his grandmother wouldn't buy him the game because she found out what was in it.

I thank God every day I'm of age to buy M-rated video games. I can proudly display my ID and say "yeah, I went there, I did that, I got that game."
