These thing only happen in america....

Mostly in America, but that doesn't change the fact that despite stricter gun laws in other countries there are horrible occasions of this sort anyway.

I'm sick of it all too. But, the fact is, all these situations HAVE been handled wrongly. There's nothing we can do about it but stop dwelling on it so much.

This incident was in no way preventable. This guy would have gone on a shooting rampage regardless of anti-videogaming laws, gun control or anything. This situation could have been better contained, but I am generally satisfied with the way things were handled. The only bad choice made was not to incite a panic. Instead of telling the kids and raving gunman was on the loose, had already killed some people, and that they should lokc themselves in their dorms, the school decided to keep it hush hush and go on with business as usual. I honeslty can't stand these policies. Keeping the people ignorant of danger will ultimately lead to more death than would be caused by a panic. The VT kids should have, but instead, they walked into the classrooms they would later die in, not knowing what awaited them. The info was out there, but was not circulated to them.

Again, this was not something that can be effectively prevented by passing laws. Any such laws would only destroy more of our freedoms, and in no way save us from these mad people.

Alpha basically summed up my feelings about the whole thing.

I don't see how tightening gun control laws would destroy your freedoms.

Any law destroys a freedom. There's a law where I'm from that makes it illegal to sleep ontop of a refridgerator. Despite the fact I wouldn't chose to exercise this freedom, I still have had it taken from me.

Gun control laws are useless and take power from the people. (think... holocaust)

If im going to kill someone... I'm not going to care about a stupid law.

I'm not saying outlaw guns, but only make restrictions on laws for owning them rather than let anyone get their hands on them.

On a side note, 3 Iraqi lawmakers died and a few dozen others were wounded in a suicide bombing last week.

And nine Afghans were killed by bombs this morning according to CNN's website.

But that's just a side note, as Americans are better and more important humans than Iraqis and Afghans, apparently.

To Americans, yes, we are more important to us. If I cared for every African who starved to death, or every eastern european being ethnically cleansed, I couldn't function in life. I'd have to cry every second of the day. Instead, I prefer to live a happy life and not give a damn.

I'm more saying this happens every day in some part of the world, and we (and most of the 'civilized' world) are surprised when it happens here. Humans will be humans and kill each other. Americans are not unsusceptible (sp?) to this.

The media should spend one day on this like they do with every other mass killing around the world.

Iraq is a warzone, people are expected to die in warzones.

Virginia Tech is a school, people are not expected to die in schools.

I just think that whole line of reasoning that people don't care about other people is pretentious and obnoxious, because I know you couldn't care less about the Iraqis and Afghans, you just want to get on your high horse =/

Baghdad's Parliament is not a part of the warzone.

Edit: Well, rather it hasn't been until now I suppose. Point is, people aren't supposed to die in our Capitol building. It's basically the same thing.

And I wasn't saying I care about them, I was reflecting upon how western society freaks out when uncivilized things come to pass, when in reality they are more common than we're willing to admit. American (and other nations) soldiers and federal agents torture and needlessly kill people all the time. We're not so different from them.

But yeah. Way off subject. I've done my share of mourning for the VT students. I guess I'm just sick of how they have to go on and on about it. Can't get any other hint of news of the rest of the world. I live in Denver, so you can imagine the Columbine references.
