I must admit that I didn't mind sonic 06 or sonic and the secret rings, but Sega just needs to give sonic a temporary rest, or at least try to to do a sonic project that lasts a couple of years so they can actually find ways to make it good.
Apparently though, there is set to be a sonic RPG coming out as of 2008. Since when do Sonic and RPG mix? It seems to have only worked for Mario because Square Enix was behind Super Mario RPG. I didn't really care for paper Mario.

Because if they laid him to rest, all the rabid fanbois and gurls would cry "NOOOOO! Not SONIC!!" And all converge on Sega HQ. Thus, half the world would implode.
Though I'd much prefer half the world imploding rather than what we have now. "Waaa, Smash Bros! I want sonic in it!" "Waaa, mario sport game #53453! I want sonic in it!" "Waaa, Final Fantasy! I want son--"... Well you get what I'm saying.

You forgot the needless Shadow bashing. If anybody needs to be in Super Smash Brothers, ITS HIM. If they did it right, he might actually fit in very well into the game, because he has an average speed, and his fighting style would blend in pretty well with the other characters.
Sonic however, wouldn't fit in that well, because he specializes in speed and nothing else, neither would any of the other sonic characters.
