Mixed bag of stuff...mostly venting.

So, today is the last day before the final day of lectures before the Easter break. I'll use the break to do assignments (bleh) and catch up on lost gaming time (I hear Oblivion's call...).
So, Monday night was my first night on shield. It would seem that this means I'm moving up in the world
So, hopefully I'll be able to go for my combat status next week or the week after. To be honest though, I don't think I'll be ready for it. To that end, I'll probably work with wood anyway until I think I'm ready to be able to battle without strikes going awry. Dunno how long it'll take, but hopefully not long.
In other news, one of my toes randomly decided to have skin rip off it. So now my poor toe hurts and looks all red and ouchie-like. Oh well, such is life.
My brother bought a place over the weekend, so he should be moving out in about 2 months. Yay! At least I won't have to worry about his ferality anymore. And I'm doubting that me'n mum are gonna get any dinner invites, so I won't be seeing him nearly as often.
Easter. My mummy is getting a Darrel Lea liquorice egg. My brother is getting whatever I find at Watergardens. My dad....well, if I get him anything, the most likely outcome is that it'll have become a mould colony before I see him to be able to give it to him. Conversely, I'm not expecting anything from him either. I mean, the last time I saw him was....um....oh, I remember now! It was sometime in January when he wanted me to do something for him! And the time before that was...well...a time when he wanted me to do something for him. Seeing a pattern here? Reminds me of that time, about...5-6 weeks back. He had to drop some papers off for my mum, so he drove over to our (me'n mum's) place to drop it in our letterbox. When he got there, he rang me to say since he was already at our place, he wouldn't mind seeing me. Now, normally I would've been home and so wouldn't have much choice in the matter. Amazingly, though, I'd picked that of all days to drop into my old school, run into a friend and go to his place for a while since I'd finished for the day
So of course, my dad had picked the one time I wasn't home when I normally would be to have to drop something off. Oooh! Oooh! I can think of another example! When he rang me one time (I can't remember what it was he wanted - the real reason for his call) and happened to ask what, if any, uni course I got into. When I told him about it (first preference, only one place available and I got it yadda yadda), he got all bouncy and excited and said that he would ring back another time to try and organise a celebration.
Other than when rang when he was dropping stuff off in the letterbox, I haven't heard from him since. When he did ring, he never mentioned it. All he mentioned was that he wouldn't mind seeing me since he happened to be dropping something off where I live.
Seeing a pattern there? The only times I get so much as an illegible sms are when he happens to be where I am or he wants something from me. After all, why should he organise a day to see his daughter when he can wait (3 or more months) to be in the area or need something?
Yeeeeeees, he's a really caring, considerate person.
I think not.
Keeping that in mind, I think it's rather easy to see why I might hesitate at getting him anything for Easter.

I have a question...is it better to have a mile of blocks on one side of the blog entries, or do I put two rows of blocks and make the entries look thin and silly? Leave comments saying which is better, I suppose.
So, last night I realised that historical reenactment is certainly doing some good. Not only am I having loads of fun, but I've found that I'm building up muscle on my right arm. Now all I need is to get my conbat status so I can get a shield to start adding muscle on the left to even myself out
And I've decided that my brother doesn't think the world revolves around him. No, it's not the world...it's the galaxy! The idiot told my mum he'd be home for dinner last night (he's moved in with me, my mum and of course the kitty cats whilst he finds a place of his own), so she made tuna and pineapple. In other words, she made a meat dish on the basis that he'd be there to eat some of it (y'know, what with me being a vegetarian), and I had leftovers from when I'd been at reenactment. But of course, he didn't turn up. Didn't send a message, either. Just left us high and dry and wondering if something had happened. When my mum finally sent a message to ask if he was okay, the response was, and I quote: 'yes'. No 'sorry for making you lie awake wondering if something'd gone wrong, sorry for not letting you know that I wasn't gonna be there after all', just 'yes'. {expletive antidisestablishmentarianized by Cspace}.
So, my poor shattered ear seems to be healing well, without any infection. The fact that I only got it four days ago makes no difference to me. Point is, it doesn't hurt unless I catch it on something (generally my hair), and there's no sign of infection. I suppose that means I don't get to march over to the folks who did it and ask them what they thought they were doing. Phooey.
Top Gear isn't on Aussie TV at the moment. I miss it lots and lots
And as seems to be the habit with me recently, I've decided to go and make this entry right before I have a lecture. And I have and hour's break afterwards, so I can go find something else to write about in my hyperactive blog

Y'know, a recall a certain someone (Raaaaaaaat) telling people to blog with some vague semblance of regularity. I could make mention of toilet business with that, but I shan't. Cos...like...I'm not immature. Most of the time.
So!
Nothing particularly exciting has happened of late. I mean, lectures are great fun, but nothing in particular comes to mind. I think I have the most fun during my breaks, when I either grab my pillow out of the boot of my car and have a snooze on the back seats, or hog one of the computers in the library having an email conversation with my mum. For instance, those of you who've seen the movie Short Circuit ("Hey laserlips, your mama was a snowblower!") may remember a mention of the cost of the robots. Today's email conversation was wondering where in the world the 17c at the end of the $11,000,000 came from. Another conversation was to do with chemistry and whether ice cream or normal cream is better with maple syrup on waffles (yes, both in the same conversation). Sometimes we have sms conversations at the same time as the email ones. More fun that way
So, I've recently discovered that I'm addicted to one song: The Kill (Bury Me), by 30 Seconds To Mars.
Oh, and a post or two back I mentioned that I wanted someone to tell me what they thought of the movie of The Queen of the Damned as compared to the book. Since noone bothered to comment (I doubt anyone much even reads my blog, so that kinda creates a problem where asking for opinions is concerned), I went ahead and watched the movie myself.
Big mistake.
Absolute load of crock. I reckon the movie coulda been put together better if it'd been done by a seamstress with three fingers and a ballpoint pen. I have no idea what bone-headed behemoth did it, but whoever they are, they need to be shot. Oh sure, it was alright as a movie, but if you ask me, it was a completely new storyline with some borrowed (altered) characters. I mean, the movie doesn't even have the character that actually killed Akasha in it at all! Go figure. No Mekare, no Armand, Azime, Khayman, Louis, Gabrielle, Magnus, Mael...you name it, s/he's not in it. The only character that was true to the book was Enkil...because he had no dialogue or movement.
And I'm gonna go start reading The Tale of the Body Thief now.

So, like yesterday, I have all of about 5 minutes to write something.
So, I noticed the link in Rat's sig about the biggest bridge in the world. I recognised it...from an episode of Top Gear. I think Rat saw that ep at my place on day, come to think of it...the supercars one (remember the carpark fiasco?
)
If you do not watch Top Gear, you are stupid.
I'll admit, it's a show about cars. But you don't even have to like cars to enjoy the show simply because of the humour. And for those of you who have vague memories about a TV presenter being in a massive crash in a jet-powered car late last year...one of the Top Gear presenters was said presenter. Richard Hammond, also known as 'Hamster' to his co-presenters. Despite what wiki articles say, it's because of two occasions in season 7 where he ate cardboard. You'd have to watch the show for a while to figure out just how he came across the cardboard to eat it on the show (I actually saw on of the episodes...absolutely hilarious!).
And I have to go now, because I have a Java software lab class to attend. Yes, I know, that means no shiny dissection kits. It does mean programming though, and programming is always fun. Well, except for stupid Java command script.
Adios!

Quotes
"Your life is like a star...darkness surrounds it, but it's up to you to keep it bright."
"Even though you may want to move forward in your life, you may have one foot on the brakes. In order to be free, we must learn how to let go. Release the hurt. Release the fear. Refuse to entertain your old pain. The energy it takes to hang onto the past is holding you back from a new life. What is it you would let go of today?"
"Any change, any loss, does not make us victims. Others can shake you, surprise you, disappoint you, but they can't prevent you from acting, from taking the situation you're presented with and moving on. No matter where you are in life, no matter what your situation, you can always do something. You always have a choice and the choice can be power."
"Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom."
