Slavery is considered bad because it happened at the fault of the Americans. America shouldn't have an appreciation day for what happened in Egypt, Persia, and/or Germany. Which still doesn't excuse why blacks would have an appreciation day while other previously poorly treated groups such as Native Americans and Japanese wouldn't.
Secondly, I don't know if this applies to all school systems, but in my school system, students are given the day off on Jewish holidays. However, other religious holidays of minority religions such as Muslim holidays are NOT recognized. I think such holidays can count as "appreciation days" for those not of the religion celebrating.
Slavery Hmmm... now I'm not so sure...

Also, there is the fact that if the govornment recognized every religious holiday, almost every day of the year would be a holiday, (if you tryed to recognize every holiday from every religion) thus, it is imprectical from a financial/educational point of view to create/observe more holidays.

The same would be true if the government had to recognize every race/religion/nationality for sufferings that race/religion/nationality had endured.

Actually, God WAS the entire reason for founding this country.
Even though Christians have actually put the Jews through 3/4 of what happened to them, they deserve a holiday if the blacks do.

And if the government, like Crescens said, recognised every suffering from every race, nationality, etc. as a holiday, well, let's just say there would be more than 365 days in a year.
And I what think is unfair is that we get Christmas vacation at our school (which rocks, but still), yet on Channuka or Passover, "Turn to page 381 in your textbook."
Channuka, I can understand. But pesach... that's just not fair.
And when I meant that Jews get a holiday, I really meant that they get apprecation in the places they were enslaved. Britain got what they deserved when we cut off from them in Israel. They put the Jews in the Middle East to hold Britain's power against Turkey. Technically, that's slavery, I guess.
But I'm getting way off topic again... Blacks really aren't just in demanding an appreciation day.

Actually, God WASN'T the reason this country was formed. People wanted freedom from the crown, so we made a country. It was not only for freedom of religion, but also for being taxed for things that didn't benefit them at all.
No one is just in demanding an appreciation day. Stop complaining that Jews don't get a holiday for appreciating slavery. You think that since you are Jewish, that you suffered the most. If you were black, Japanese, or whatever, you would think the same thing for your religion/race.

No, I'm not complaining. I'm saying, that if black have an appreciation day for what they went through then Jews should get an appreciation day for what they went through. I don't think it's right blacks think that since they are black, they deserve appreciation for what their ancestors endured. So I'm countering that saying, " I get what you get" kind of statement.
Also, I thought that the pilgrims left because they had different beleifs from the church, and were put in jail for it.

The pilgrims were not only sent away for different beliefs than the Church. Also, England did not send them away with the idea of them making a new country.

There isn't actually a black appreciation day. Meh, I can't tell what's complaining and what's not complaining after living in the same house as my sister for 9 years.

An interesting thing about us native americans is that we are incapable of growing facial hair. Me being only part indian means I can only grow part of a beard. I look really dumb when I don't shave.

Same as alpha I got a mustahce coming in but only cause Im mostly white 25% native american ^^ so I will kinda like have a mustache soon i hope ^^ but its hard to do being part native americna we actually dont get much hair at all in any areas....

There should be an appreciation day or something. It should be more like "Emancipation Day" celebrating when the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. We wont get off school like we do for major holidays such as Winter Break.
