Epitaph Of The Twilight from .hack//quarentine

Unknown where the Cursed Wave was born...
After the stars doth cross the heavens...
The sky in the East doth darken.
And air doth fills with mourning.
From the chosen land beyond the forest,
A sign of the Wave comes.
Riding the Wave is: Skeith, the Shadow of Death,
to drown all that stands.
Mirage of Deceit, Innis,
Betray all with the flawed image,
and did aid the Wave.
And by the Power of Magus,
a drop from the Wave doth reach the heavens,
and creates a new Wave.
With the Wave, Fidchell,
the power to tell the dark future,
hope darkens, sadness and despair rule.
Gorre schemes when swallowed by the Cursed Wave.
Macha seduces with the sweet trap.
Wave reaches the Pinnacle, and escape none can.
Tarvos still remains with more cruelty to punish and destroy.
And with the turbulent destruction after the Wave.
Only a void remains.
From deep within the void arrives Corbenik.
Yet to return, the shadowed one.
Who quests for the Twilight Dragon
Rumbles the Dark Hearth,
And Helba, Queen of the Dark, has raised finally her army.
Apeiron, King of Light, beckons... At the base of the rainbow they meet.
Against the abominable "Wave," together they fight.
Alba's lake boils.
Light's great tree doth fall.
Power - all now to droplets turned in the temple of Arche Koeln.
Returns to nothing, this world of shadowless ones.
Never to return, the shadowless one.
Who quests for the Twilight Dragon.
The wife buffeted by "waves" turns her back on the field.
The daughter that waited for the shadows repeated,
"For sure... For sure I can go home."
But the girl did not know...
The truth that waited at the end of the journey
The eternal mourning of her land.
In the place of the calamitous, only life was known.
After the circling stars
When the eastern dark void, the air full of despair
In the depths of the divided forest, in the land of Karma,
Riding fast on the path is Skeith
Bearing death's shadow, it eliminates all that seek to thwart it.
The Confusing Mirage, Innis
Decieves those that see it with illusions, rescues the waves
The wave soaring high, when its head is smashed,
A new wave will emerge
To become Magus's power.
When questioning the wave,
Hope's light will be lost when he speaks of the dark future of where sorrow and resignation reign.
Using Fidchell's Technique
When englufed by the Waves of Calamity, Gorre will plan
The sweet snare of conciliation is Macha
The Waves, an exceeding maelstrom
Nothing can escape
When you think you have escaped, Tarvos exists
To destroy those with his exceeding cruelty
Upon violent requital, only to remain is the void, the vacant darkness
is the harbringer that Corbenik is to appear.

Yeah. All of .hack is based on this, and after playing three and a half games, seeing all of .hack//SIGN, and part of .hack//Legend of Twilight Bracelet (DUSK), I'm still clueless to a lot of the plot stuff in .hack as a whole. Obviously, the "Wave" that you continually fight throughout the games is referred to here, its eight phases, yadda yadda.

This is the part I'm completely oblivious about. Morgana ("the wife") created The Wave at the end of SIGN in its first phase -- Skeith. "Buffeted" implies that the Wave somehow attacked her. Also, "The daughter that waited for the shadows" is Aura, but at the beginning of .hack//Legend of Twilight Bracelet (.hack//DUSK) Aura still doesn't have her act together ... judging by the fact that DUSK doesn't seem to have the depth of plot that SIGN and the games had/have, it doesn't seem she'll get her act together by the end of it, either... I know that she's supposed to "awaken" at the end of the four games (I'm zooming through the fourth and final one), but then she seems to magically de-awaken as .hack progresses into DUSK.
Non-epitaph related, I agree with Stuffy on this particular issue, but people go into comas in .hack because of that random DING sound that happens quite often, right? It's referred to as a music note in LIMINALITY, and occurs frequently in SIGN (and the games I believe as well, though I can't remember quite as thoroughly since I've been zooming through them.)
Fans of the .hack series, help me (and probably others) understand all this stuff.

Everytime you go into a boss fight you hear a bunch of white noise, then your screen lines out and turns black. You see a bunch of different length red lines emerge from the center, then retreat back inward. When they all hit at the same time, you hear the DING sound. Liminality made referrence to the tuning fork (which slightly resembled by Helba's wand, but hers has three prongs rather than two).
Though that may be the DING you refer to, it is not what causes the comas. I've always thought it was due to the Boss's data drain, but when they use it on you and your characters, they do not go into comas, but rather are inflicted with every status and a life drain I belive. I was confused as to why they didn't until I rewatched the time Orca got data drained. Skeith pummled Orca and caused a protect break, then used data drain. It is the combination of these two things, that transfer one's conciousness into the game leaving the bodies comatose. Also, there may be some connection to this and the deadly flash (a flash or flashes of light that cause the brain to shut down, similar to the seizure inducing episode of pokemon, only killing instead of giving seizures).
I still have yet to get the fourth version, though I plan to shortly. I'm still in the dark about the role cubias plays.

Which doesn't explain at all why Tsukasa went into a coma in SIGN. S/he was never Data Drained... But you did do a good job at explaining why Data Drain only causes status effects when used against your people by bosses. Yeah, Cubia's still confusing me a tad too. Hopefully, once I finish up QUARANTINE, everything will reveal itself.

Well, I just beat .hack//quarentine. Now to test my knowledge of the game. This is a spoiler!
Phase 1: Skeith (humanoid figure with a red wand)
Phase 2: Innis (a wall?)
Phase 3: Magus (a leaf of some sort)
Phase 4: Fidchell (i forget, another wall maybe?)
Phase 5: Gorre (2 easter island head dudes)
Phase 6: Macha (uper half of a woman, the bottom was just a flower)
Phase 7: Tarvos (a snake with someone's crutch through it, kinda like the midgar zolom)
Phase 8: Corbenik (first it was a seed, then 2 leaves, then an eye...)
0-<<<<- (Magus leaf)
Game 1: Here you get the bracelet, a introduction to the story, and a lot of information you don't know what to do with. After defeating Skeith, you meet Cubia and the game ends.
Game 2: In this game, you learn quite a bit more. You team up with Lios (the system admin) and meet a very important character, Wiseman. He gives you the epitaph by e-mail. Later on, you travel to net slum and meet up with Helba, where Lios and Balmung ambush you and attempt to delete everyone. Magus pops up and foils their deletion attempt, and they leave you to kill it. At the end, all the graphics are scrambled.
Game 3: More of the pieces are beginning to fit. You team up with Lios, Helba, Balmung (OMG, yay!) and fight Fidchell and Gorre. They launch an effective counterattack and you defeat Gorre (my favourite boss). You learn a great deal about the Epitaph, Herald and Emma in the Liminality for this game.
Game 4: You fight Macha (Mia turns out to be a npc like Tsukasa from .hack//sign, not only that, but she transforms into Macha as well.) You fight Tarvos, which was cool. Then you fight and kill Cubia, but he comes back to life. Aura reveals that Cubia is the shadow created from the ligth of the bracelet, so you desotry the bracelet, killing Cubia. At the end, you fight Corbenik and everyone gets data drained (for good). After that, you rush Corbenik and right as your about to stab its eye, Aura jumps in front of you. Aura is born, and the wave is destroyed.
Summary: Basically, Aura had to die in the game to be born in reality (I think). Ahh, its so confusing!

Hey, Alpha, have you beaten the 15-level Data bug-infested bonus dungeon yet? It's a pain, even more so because you have to use Elk... *shudder*
Also, I liked Balmung a lot, but I was rarely able to use him. Why? Because you need BlackRose around for all major bosses and I always kept a Wavemaster in the party (Mistral in INFECTION and MUTATION, Wiseman through OUTBREAK and QUARANTINE, Helba after finishing QUARANTINE). Therefore, there was no room for Balmung. Meh.

Ah, I hated having to use Blackrose. I was so excited when I beat .hack//outbreak because I could us Balmung and Wisemen freely, but all the monsters at the end of the game had physical or magical toleranced that absolutely ruined it. I couldn't level up at the end because every time I tried, I died. Then at the end of .hack//quarentine, I could use Helba! Yay! With Balmung and Helba at my side, I am invincible.
The 15 level data bug was awful, sepecially because I didn't bring a Raian. All I had was a Sublimer, and that had no Thunder attacks. It took me forver to beet the Dark Asteroids. I thought for sure I'd get a game over on the last level. When I went in, I had no clue how many levels there were. After I got done with level 2, I was already in full red warning. I said to myself, wow, I hope this is a 3 level dungeon... Elk was useless, Helba kept me from dying so many freakin times (she only died once, and that was after a data drain that left everyone with 1 HP and 1 SP). The stupid thing is, I lost 4,800 exp from data draining so much. I got at least 2 levels back though.
I also made it a habit to bring along a wavemaster after the second game (at the end, you can get Wiseman). The first game, however, I found using Blackrose and Gardenia was the best way to go. Unfotunately, that got the Repulse Cage attack stuck in my head forever.
What would really have been cool, is the option to chose what character you wanted to play as. I'd be Balmung, and my allies woud be Helba and either Moonstone or Subaru. If I had the option to create my own character, I'd probably would have gone with wavemaster. I hang ou in the back casting spells and healing allies anyway, might as well be the best character suited for it.
I hope they make another .hack that allows for character choice. Maybe a real MMORPG?

Ah....damit all... =\ I liked Mia....Fudge, that's just my luck....No offense towards how you think towards hackers....but I think that if you're a hacker (Like me.....) You understand a whoooole lot more...Helba isn't helping you, you're helping helba...Blackrose and Mia have crushes on you...Obviously
Elk hates you in the beginning then envies you later. Mistral just thinks you're too darn cool!
Balmung is pretty much fed up with you. And all those other guys (wiseman, the guy who swears entirely too much) Just think you're a friend....Sorta...Depending on how much you use them and if you give them crud.
If you don't understand me talking about hacking and stuff. (Go to SeeD Inn and look at my topic) As far as WHY Helba needs your help....It's to get rid of the wave. Because she knows your ultimate weak point. Seeing friends get hurt. (Hence, Yasuhiko) And you benefit from it as well...as far as she sees. (Meaning Orca comes back)
