I'm just letting everyone know that site updates will be slow until early August (around the seventh) due to my internship and now something else which has come up. I am informing everyone that the site is not dying, it is just hibernating. grnwink.gif

Following the date, whatever it comes out to be (between the fifth and the ninth), you're going to be hit with some nice updates all of a sudden. I believe that the upgrade script for the forums will be fixed (along with most related bugs), meaning that they will be updated around this time most likely. Quantum Star is ready, I just need the chance to install it and everyone can start their empires version 2.something. SeeD will have some updates to reduce confusion and promote suggestions. Also DStorm will have a fairly large update with a large number of new abilities for every class, traders (with a relatively large list of official items), tradeskills (which will not be controlled by GMs but the players, we have a system relating to what traders can provide to the economy), races, and possibly new classes (have to decide if they are worth quests or not). Also, following this we will begin to provide an official means to have SeeD emerge in other games. Again, if you are interested in leading a group in another game please make a thread in the appropriate forum. thumb.gif

I know that's a bit, but when I am back full-time (and it will truly be full-time from then until January most likely; not school/work schedule or anything unless something strange comes up) it will probably happen very quickly. The only thing that shouldn't happen is the forums blowing up, but only time will tell that. FIREdevil.gif

Feel free to reply with any ideas that you would like included in our 'plosion of updates here. bluetongue.gif

Also, btw, we will probably have our CurvedSpace Day Events in later August. Get your cans of spam ready, dust off your mod rods, and wear protective glasses because the forums could 'plode when you least expect it! arcadefreak.gif

There could also be a day that I'm free... free! *image of a bird flying into a window*

Congratulations! You have gained one insanity level! (3289)

Anyway, yeah, I could show up randomly and make one of these happen earlier. Not really in my control at the moment but it can happen. grnwink.gif

Doesn't mean that events and things still cannot happen, remember that anyone can still organize things in SeeD or the community. In fact, I would recommend that some do! Summer will soon be coming to a close for many (some school systems are already back in session, yar... *looks at BigBro*), no better time to schedule your creations for this time because attendance will probably be best (except for the unfortunate ones). deal.gif

Will do, 'tis easy but I cannot access the Admin CP on this comp (my other is in pieces, installed a new disc drive but haven't yet put it back together; should do that in a few minutes eh? Before the cicadas get in loopy.gif ).

I'll check it when I get the chance, I'm going to reassemble my computer and hopefully get minor things like this and the PM inbox size done tomorrow (minor, as in the time required for the update). I haven't been able to reply to any PMs during the past few days and during the "situation" my inbox exploded, still trying to recover from that. I believe that you did this already, but anyone who has not sent me an "AG:" PM (if still relevant) please do so because I may not get to your message otherwise.

If everyone else is making suggestions, I guess i will too bluetongue.gif . I think we should delete all the people who have been inactive for a REALLY long time, or never actually posted. That way we can get an accurate idea on how many members we actually have. thumb.gif

This has been mentioned a few times before, but maybe we can find another way to do it other than by deleting them (I'm not positive but I believe that I may be able to make a calculation of activity from the forum database). Their registrations are not hurting anything and if they do by chance return they could be discouraged from coming back if they are deleted. This sounds funny, but if someone is just casually coming back to look around, the effort of registering again could make them turn away.

Er, why would they need to register if they are just looking around, they could do the same thing as a guest..

Anyone can look around, but if they want to make a post (anything involved with actually being a part of the community) they could reconsider if they have to go through registration again. Often if it is a member who just looks around and posts now and then, this could prevent him/her from posting and maybe consider going somewhere else or just leaving. I know it seems odd but it actually happens this way sometimes. Often the image is that which is sometimes more tedious than it really is here (for all they know we could have email authentication or other things which take time). The member count really doesn't hurt anything, you could potentially hurt more by reducing it than by just leaving it there so older members have the open door feeling. The member total is also sometimes judged as a representation of how long the board existed and was active, not as much a meter of its present activity.

Those I am referring to are mainly those who placed the site in their favorites, forgot about it, came upon it later and decided to check it out (maybe trying to remember what it was), then coming back to the forums with the mentality of a new member. I get IMs from members trying to remember who I am (being placed on a buddy list a while back but not seen for a while), so I'm sure that CurvedSpace/SeeD is lurking around on favorites lists. An old returning member may not always turn away if he/she has to register again, but the convenience of already being there is a plus because they may want to stay and check things out a little bit more than he/she would otherwise (we are basically setting a second first-impression). This is similar to how a newer member would judge the community since it has changed, and we try to make them feel as welcome as possible and wish to return.

Uh-huh.. Though the members that join back tend to forget their password of their name and therefore they make a new one. More registering again user posted image. It's very common, y'know.
