i was really bored today... i mean. really bored.. so i thought i do something i was curious about.... see how many SeeD members had posted 0 posts/1posts/less than 10 posts etc..

well, this is what i came up with

People with 0 posts - 686
People with 1 posts - 358
People with more than 1 post, but less than 10 - 405

Seeing as We have 1791 registered members - and 1449 members have posted less than 10 posts, that leaves 342 members that have posted more than 10 posts...

how can we say that we have 1791 members if 38% of them havent even posted once? conf.gif

Why dont we just delete these members?

*is confused*

Well... that IS interesting! Never bothered to look at that before. Hmm....

But I think the reason why we don't just delete these people is because maybe by chance they will come back.

The chances of these people coming back are slim, as most of these people either posted in 2002-03...

dont get me wrong, some (i use that very loosely, as i really mean none) might come to SeeD, this time actually make an effort to post at least once and then who knows, they might post alot, or then just leave... joining the 19% of SeeD's who have posted once...

There have been cases where people joined, added to their favourites and then didn't come back. Months/years later, they've noticed it and returned to it, and actually became a little active. Cspace has said many times he won't delete inactive members. If people do return, they're more likely to stay if they don't have to sign up a second time. It uses up very little memory to keep them all there, so there is no advantage to deleting them.

Some of them are SeeDs and are active on Runescape anyway, they just don't like the forums.

Its not just about deleting them...

SeeD is known as one of the biggest Runescape clan (if not the largest - correct me if im wrong)

How can we possible say we are, when so many of our members, havent even posted a single time... conf.gif

and Goto is right, this issue has been raised a number of times. Every time it as, Cspace has said he will not delete inactive members.

I've registered on a few boards and never posted because its a lot easier to see which posts are new, some of them could be doing that TheSmile.gif

Bleh, what good would deleting so many inactive members do, anyways? The number of Members doesn't have to show how active we are, just how long we have been around.

And anyway, seeing us with 1,400+ more members then we could actually consider active makes us soooo much more intimidating biglaugh.gif

Also, several people have several accounts. For example, I have an account that I can access at school, so that I don't have to risk accessing my Mod Control Panel on an unsafe computer.

In the Suggestion Forum currently:
QUOTE
There are some ideas that have been brought up over and over but cannot be implemented, and I'm just going to post them here so everyone knows. This doesn't mean that if included in a suggestion it is an automatic "no", but it will probably not be accepted at least in its entirety.

Deleting Members (SeeD or forums): Regardless of whether for statistical purposes or for the convenience of knowing who is active, we are not mass-deleting members (at least until a real problem arises with the server itself requiring otherwise, but I don't see this anytime soon). For statistics I can check other more detailed sources and quote them, and more would be lost than gained by just knowing who is active. More would be gained in the long run by having the door open for old members to return with their profiles and everything intact.

For statistical analysis of our true activity I can check the server logs or admin panel, the number of members is not an assessment of activity on any community (and if it becomes one, some members become angry if they leave for an extended time and find themselves deleted upon return). Activity in SeeD is based in Runescape though, not on the forums. I will truthfully say that many SeeDs do not even know how to use the forums and sometimes do not bother with them after registering. Doesn't mean they won't come to the site, just that they aren't using it currently. I have heard this directly from some to whom this applies.

Also, I have mentioned recommendations to come to the forums scattered around the site, but it is not a requirement to join the forums in order to join SeeD and many overlook this board after applying on the Member Manager. Not everyone wants to be active in a forum community, some would find it pointless for anything other than obtaining information relating to events and the site.

The member count, if for any statistical analysis, can show how long we have existed and combined activity, even if it is short-lived for some members. This can also be appealing to new members because it shows that we are not new and have been here a while. If we eliminate a large group of members we will have the appearance that we are new when viewing how active some members are, which obviously isn't true.

I'm just saying that the forums and SeeD should not be joined together to assess the clan's activity. Some even forgot our URL but upon contact still considered themselves SeeDs.

Just leave them there. That number down there shoiws about many people were actually interested enough to register. Who cares if they didn't post? bluetongue.gif If you need an actual number you can base it off the number of people that registered to the member Manager/Profile Manager Forums. That's around 1,000 right now. grnwink.gif
