Runescape Orienteering
Where: Meet on world 20 outside the castle in Lumbridge
When: Saturday, Sept. 18 2004 at 4 pm EST

What will happen:
A number of locations (control stations) will be selected. A person (control) will stand at each control station waiting for the racers to arrive. The racers try to find the fastest (not necessarily the shortest) route to each control in order. They will be sent out one at a time at short intervals, with the timekeeper noting when each person leaves. As a racer arrives at a control station he/she should talk to the control (Hi, [name]! or something like that). The control will acknowledge (the racer can then continue) and send a message to the timekeeper who keeps track of each racer's progress. Along the way each person must pick up the items on a list. The person who arrives back the fastest after visiting the controls in order and with all the items on the list wins.

I've made a list of locations and items and these will be posted or otherwise distributed shortly before the race. Racers should wear a blue cape and should not wear anything else nor carry anything as that will slow you down. Controls will be provided a set of blue robes and a hat to wear at their station so the racers can identify them.

Volunteers should arrive early to get to their positions. I'll let you know how early soon.

Well, that's up to you. We won't have much of a race with one control, but there's still plenty of time before the race to get them. If this works out well, we can have another at a later date to let the controls run if they want to.

I modified the first post to list you guys (except CG since he's undecided and can't be both ).

I'm still clueless as to what would be good prizes for this so if anyone has an idea I'm listening.

well if I could offer a system, i'll be the timekeeper.

The system is, when a player addresses a control, the control acknowleges them, and writes their name down somewhere. The person who takes the items from the racers at the end, write down the names of the people who successfully pass on all of the required items. The timekeeper (me) stands at the beginning of the race course, and writes down when a player departs, and when a player returns. At the end of the race, the controls pm me a list of the names they wrote down via the forums. Once i have all of the lists, i'll calculate the time for all the racers, check their name on the lists, and verify wether or not they passed on all of the items.

Also, since i'll be in school then, this will depend heavily on the time.

It's very important for this type of race that the racers check in with the controls in order. If that were not the case, then your system would work well.

We could do it this way:
Timekeeper records start and finish times and checks the items against the list as the racers finish (or when all have arrived back). Controls pm Assistant Timekeeper when a racer arrives (just the name is fine) which he will record on a chart. The TK and the ATK collaborate to determine the winner.

That pot idea sounds good. Probably the best way to do that is have everyone bring their contribution to the race and I'll collect it before the start. 1k seems like a good amount. I'll add 10k to start.
