there is one in ye olde inglish that is for some church thing, it takes up 3 lines of the world records book. but i cant remember that. and why are words so long and unpronouncable? or unspellable?

Pirate's word looks like it means disease of the lung due to really tiny quartz sand particles from volcanoes. 'Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis' is, theoretically, an easier or (more likely) more precise way to say that. I imagine the people who actually use it abbreviate it most of the time.

While it may be longer, not a whole lot of people know about it (maybe one or two I know) so they keep telling us it's antidisestablishmentarianism. I think it's like outdated textbooks in public schools.

If you know how to break up a word it's a lot easier to say/spell it (helps if you're in that field too). Like pneumono-ultramicroscopic-silico-volcano-coniosis.

1913 letters I believe but I didn't check. If you wish to check the spelling you can as I'm not sure if I got it quite right or not . The mean of it is Tryptophan Synthetase, a protein with an enzyme of 267 amino acids.

Sorry, I'm not going to be a molecular biologist (behavioral ecologist instead ) but any person who's not missing their brain would not try to say that, they'd just call it tryptophan synthetase. Breaking it up won't make it easier to say either (but each piece ends in -yl except the last).

There is a protein called titin that has ~38,000 amino acids in it (at least in humans) so if somone were inclined to write it out, the resulting 'word' would be much longer than for tryptophan synthetase, so I don't think names like those should count as words in the English language.
