Poll #5 - How Strict Should We Be?

Poll: On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being the most strict; NOT comparatively, just in general), how strict do you think we should be with regards to "punishments"?

How strict do you think we should be? At what extent should we suspend members? Should we keep doing what we're doing now? Do you agree with trying resolutions first or making examples of members for their actions? Over what should a suspension be issued?

As usual, please be respectful and don't point fingers. As for the scale, it is not in reference to our current state, please consider '1' the most lenient possible and '10' as strict as possible.

I vote "8" because i think that if rules are not enforced fairly strictly, chaos desends even faster.

I'm going with 7, though it really varies on the negative action taken to initiate the punishment. The thing is, while it's not great to either A) Be impulsive or B) Go to far on certain punishments, certain rules really need to be enforced, and we need consequences to back that up.

I don't think the actions of some members should make SeeD bring another 3-4 page list of rules to the forums. Said many times before, this is a gaming community, not a school. How strict? I vote 3; Never should anyone be banned for saying an evil word, but if it's persistant, then a punishment should be in store. Really, Judgement is the best tool.

Lets all control our own actions and not let a huge list of rules guide us TheSmile.gif

I've given the toughest vote so far, a 9. KC will do a 9 or ten, I think, so I may be equaled or bested. If we let repeat offenders keep on getting away with things, they'll persist yet and yet again.

I'm way against you star. Style deserved to be perma-banned, no matter what you say.
And now we have the quote of the day, from greenl2l: PLONGED!!!

I'm not against his banning. I'm saying someone who uses an 'evil' word here or there is fine. I didn't want to bring a former member up as an example, but yes, what he did was quite persistant and unacceptable, and he did deserve what he got.

Sorry for the non-clearness icon_sweatdrop.gif

7, because if we're too strict, we'll scare off new members, but if we arent strict enough, older members will get flamed by other older members and end up leaving.

But it's fine to bring a current member up as an example? Lucky I am voting null for all of these polls.

It's not fine, and Star didn't really want to comment on it. Ticktock shouldn't have brought up a person by name, but I don't really think it's worth arguing over now, so lets just leave it.

I voted 5-ness. Repeat offenders shouldn't get the idea that they will continually not be punished, but neither should people be afraid of a Gestapo-like reign of oppression. If things work out fine, is it really worth punishing somebody on an online forums based on an online game? I think if somebody gets the message and stops doing it, we've done our part. Keeping things too strict seems to leave a bad atmosphere here, which is something that seriously detracts from the fun of the place.

Wow, first time I've voted 10 in your polls... bluetongue.gif

We are really too leniant with everything that happens on the forums. Not strict enough punishments, I mean, two days for flaming......

But, if I had brought someone up as an example, people would jump all over me and want me banned. This is the same thing that BB is complaining about.

I did five, because I made an accident...
I meant to say 7...
Anyway, I think the members that go on a blind rage, then DON'T APOLOGIZE (and mean it) should be suspended. The ones who apologize should get a shorter sentence. ( Yes, I know that means I should get suspended, but hey, that's the rules, right?)

(And listen to you guys! Arguing in a topic meant to stop argueing! Come on! Just stop. This is so childish! It's Cspaces decison, and I guess it's okay to debate whether the member should have been perma banned, but it's not worth argueing over. Wish I knew how to spell argueing...)

It really depends on the size of the community, with a medium sized forum like this you don't have to be really really strict for it to work. It's quite easy to keep an eye on all the members and put them in place. In tipit we pretty much have a no tolerance policy on any rule-breaking, censor evasion, and the like (8-9 on strictness). Do it once and if you're not lucku enough for a warning you're banned pretty much instantly, with a community that size its the only way it'll work. I think something like 6 or 7 would be good here.
