Complete Old Project First?

This is a long story, but basically something came up and the completion of at least some of the old DStorm project has come to be potentially useful. If you do not know which project I am talking about, it is the old one (around two years ago) created in a certain free game engine. This is the 2D project which was dumped when we started working with 3D (which we do plan to continue and complete in time).
The continuation of the old project will not take over DStorm 2
Basically, this is a slight compromise.
The old game is a single-player RPG with a more open situation. It is not linear, though it is technically another "save the world" game. It is based in the same world as the forum RPG, it is not in the future as DStorm 2 would be.
Yes, the old project is in a free engine and I will not take credit for scripting the fundamental coding behind the game (although the game itself was created by us). I did not design all the textures, but the game itself would obviously be DStorm. It would probably be fun to play, and being a free download it wouldn't hurt anything.
*******************************************************
... So why would I work on this and not the real DStorm (Age of Arcana)?
I would not be abandoning the AoA project. The AoA project will be a massive undertaking however, as anyone who knows anything about MMORPGs knows that they take longer than basically any other type of game to construct. I have high expectations for the outcome of AoA, which brings up both time problems and funding issues. The following are my considerations with regards to this:
- To officially begin work on AoA I will need a team. I will have a means to officially form a team in about a year, before then all I would be able to do is tinker with code and see what possibilities exist (which I have been doing). As for the old project, I am able to complete it on my own since time only needs to be spent on design aspects (coding isn't very difficult with it).
- To help with funding, I will need something to show for the project. Along with all planning materials the demonstration of other programs, including smaller 3D games and (in this case) a game based directly on the intended project, would provide something to show for our capabilities and expectations for AoA. This is in the case of a commercial game, we intend to remain independent, though it can also provide a crash course to test a few things before going through the whole project at once.
- DStorm 2 will be designed as a partial sequel, though a sequel to what? It was thought out to be the sequel to the old project, which was scrapped and became the forum RPG. Age of Arcana would not really be treated as a sequel itself, though its story would be treated as such. To all of us here, that would not be a problem. In the future however, what substance would the story maintain? Why not have a game (although basic) to go through it?
*******************************************************
So this is my plan as of now:
- At least mostly complete the old 2002 prototype of DarkStorm and distribute it for free.
- Construct some smaller 3D games demonstrating aspects which would be used in AoA. Some will just be for testing, and others could be distributed. They probably will not correlate to DStorm at all though will be important to the game's development. The distributed programs will most likely all be free.
- Complete AoA and, well, start improving it after it gets going.
These are the plans right now (although they can change). I will not lie to everyone, AoA is not just around the corner by any means. It will not come for some time, and while it may seem that we're delaying the process, these steps will increase the chances that it will work when the time comes. It can also give everyone a few potentially fun games along the way.
Feel free to ask anything you'd like about the probably revived project or anything else I mentioned here.

When you say making smaller games do you mean making things like a DS arena to show how the combat system will work, or a DS guild to show how a guild would work ect?

Possibly, but those games probably would not relate to DStorm in any way. What I mean is like testing the graphics engine and other things in smaller games. Basically a bunch of tests, but instead of just messing with one game we can create others along the way.

Nope, RPG Toolkit.
It's very easy and anyone can learn it with very little programming experience. Can actually make some nice games with almost no programming at all (althout 2D).
I wouldn't recommend selling any games made with it, but it's great for those who just want to have fun making a game.

Is this game playable yet? and if so where can I go to try it?
scratch that.I read more stuff...2007 .
I wana make something like that but I found "rpg toolkit", and can only make something similar to poke'mon saphire for game boy sp(graphics wise). the reason for that is I could only get that older vertion from the site I went to. It talked about the new vertion alot, but I couldn't find any place to download it. I didn't want to make anything grand lol, just something though. maybe it could be possible to make my new web site with it or something?

This is official now, the old project is being halted because it is unnecessarily slowing down the progress of AoA. It has served its purpose and I am moving on. Our arsenal is being revamped and actual progress is going to begin to be made in the near future.
It is going to be the 3D mmorpg that has been mentioned previously. The old 3D screenshots are not going to be on-par though, for after more work and whatnot things are going to look a bit nicer.
Just thought I would make a post about the project's progress. It is official that the old project is scrapped for now, but progress on Age of Arcana is going to become more visible as time goes on. Let's see what happens.

Yea, I'd rather see AoA than the other game.
BTW, what language are you using?
If Only I had the patience to finish anything I start...
