31st March 2004 - Upcoming RuneScape updates

Now that we have finished our big game engine update we can finally get back to producing regular updates to the game.
I'm sure you're all wondering whats coming next now the update is finally out, so read on for a summary of some of the things we have planned.
The new game engine allows for us to do a much greater variety of updates. We will be able to produce many exciting new features which we simply couldn't do previously. We have also expanded our development team over the last few months so expect the updates to start coming thick and fast.
These are just some of the many features for RuneScape members to look forward to over the coming months.

New Areas

  • A viking style area, including a new quest and town. (Fremennik Trials Quest)

  • A large 'frozen lands' area including penguins, mammoths, polar bears and more. (At the end of Fremennik Trials Quest, if you talk to the chieftan, he will tell you of frozen lands to the north. Also, 'tis on the world map.)

  • A pyramid quest in the desert full of traps, treasure and mummys .

  • A barrows of the undead area to explore and find new equipment.

  • Some good training areas designed for rangers.(Rangers Guild)

New quests:

  • There will of course be lots of new quests. We will be adding these on a regular basis again, including Part 4 of the ongoing plague city storyline.

New features & skills

  • Treasure hunt mini-game with a variety of rewards, including some new rare items.

  • Summoning spells - summon skeletons, demons, etc...!

  • A quest journal for you to read and recap what point you are up to in each quest. No more coming back to a quest after a break, and wondering what you are supposed to do next.

  • More random events, to give more variety, and lots of chances to win unexpected rewards. (Could be more to come, so possible yellow.)

  • More pets and followers with different properties and abilities.

  • Special organised game events on holidays.

  • Many new monsters such as Orcs, Lizardmen and more.

  • In game versions of our boardgames such as chess and draughts. (Because chess and such will be added later.)

And we will be adding even bigger features later in the year, that really take advantage of our new engines abilities, such as:

Player owned houses - Each player will be able to have their own unique house. Use the new carpentry skill to make new/rare things for your house. Using the farming skill to grow herbs and plants in the grounds of your house. Build your own private party areas and shop areas, and more!

A multiplayer duelling arena - possibly integrating with clan support, so players can form teams, and then have massive multiway wars!

Wilderness castle areas for special team playing killing wars.

Randomly generated scenarios, where a new adventure is generated for you and your friends each time you go on it. Form an adventuring party and go on your own personal quest.

That was from March 31st, a BIG look at what's to come in RS2. As a key...

Lime: This update has already come out, and we've seen it all.
Yellow: This update has been partially implemented (not compeletely done).
(Bold Parentheses after text: These are notes about what's already been hinted about this update. This could also be just notes.)
Regular text: There has been no sign of this update.

Put simply, while JaGex has certainly given us a lot more stuff to do with, it is but a mere taste of what should be yet to come! biglaugh.gif

I saw this post and thought.. "OH MY GOSH THEY FINALLY GOT HERE!!"

... Then I read at the bottom.. hehe. I'm most anxious about the summoning pets, and the Team Dueling myself. A first person view seems too much to ask.. but I think it'd be pretty cool. What are you guys looking forward to?

You know what would be cool? Clan Owned Mansions/Guilds. Every clan gets their own guild/mansion with dorms where members of the clan can decorate their room bluetongue.gif Of course it would cost like 10 million or so... but that would be cool bluetongue.gif

1. I thought they put in the Range Guild before that news post, but whatever... could be wrong.

They also have been doing minor holiday things (toy horsies for April Fools; Bob for Friday the 13th, and the Halloween stuff a few days ago), but I still want MAJOR events (those who have played EQ, think of the unannounced "GM events" that come up from time to time - where a few GMs take control of a few NPCs and host roleplayed quests and events.)
Those who will remember, will speak fondly of the warm morning breeze.

NICE! I've been waiting for POH for longer than you can think of. Since i joined practically. After getting to cooking curry, cooking skill has gone slow for me. So now, this way, things can go faster =) And you've got a refuge for meetings and friends. A great chance to Roleplay people! bandit.gif
