How to Score Bowling:
Bowling is a rather simple game to score, if you are proficient in calculus (j/k). Basically, every frame you get the number of pins you get down. At the end, they are all totaled and thats the score you get. There are also things called "marks" which help get scores above the maximum number of pins that can be knocked down in one game, 120. A mark adds whatever number of pins you knock down from the next ball you throw onto the score of the frame you just threw. To get a mark, simply make your spare. A strike will give you a double mark, meaning it takes the next two balls and adds to that frame. So...
If you throw a 9 and then miss, you recieve no mark.
If you throw a 9 and make your spare, you get a mark. The next ball you throw is a 7. Your score on the fram in which you got the 9 and the spare would be 17. Had you thrown an 8 instead of a 7, the score would have been 18.

The top row is what you threw the first frame and second frame ( / is a spare, meaning you knocked all te pins left down). The bottom is the cumulitive score to that point (assuming the 4th ball you threw missed, represented by a - )
Now, a strike will count for the next 2 balls, so if you throw three strikes in a row, the first strike's frame is worth 30.
X | X | X | - -
30 50 60
In this case, the first strike was proceded by 2 more stikes, making it worth 30 points. The second stike was followed by another strike, but then a miss. That makes it worth 20 points, which is added onto the 30. Because the last stike was followed by 2 misses, it is only worth the 10 pins you got for making it. Added onto the 30 and 20, it makes a total of 60.
I hope this helped.

that 10 pin thuresday night cost me a really nice start

I never had one of those, but I've made my fair share of 5-7's and 5-10's. That reminds me, I got a 4,6,7,9,10 split the previous game. It was a decent shot, too. I left the 4 up (idk if that is even skillfully possible to spare that). I hit the 6,9,10 cluster so that the 9 slid over and hit the 7. Maybe if I hit it a bit to the right, the 9 would have hit off the seven then into the 4, but I didn't make it.
BTW, I haven't double posted in a while, but they are both long enough so that no one can yell at me.

Sweet Alpha!
Bowling one of those things I either stink at or do pretty good at. I remember back in elementary they would roll out carpets for lanes and set up very dentable plastic bowling pins.
I think we used those foam balls you use for dodgeball when it's coed.
