Monkey Madness Quest Guide
By Zoo Newt

Requirements:
Quests: Tree Gnome Village and The Grand Tree
Stats: 43 prayer exceptionally useful, very strongly recommended; must be able to kill a lvl 195 Jungle Demon that can hit 30’s with melee and magic, thus a reasonable magic or ranged level is recommended

Required Items:
A gold bar, a ball of wool, a monkey corpse from Karamja

You will also find armor and a weapon of your choice to be useful, as well as prayer potions (very useful), antipoison potions (required, everything there wants to poison you), food (lobsters are adequate, although you’ll want to stock up when you teleport out). A ring of dueling (or two) will also come in very handy. Also bring a knife if you would like to eat pineapple, although I found this to be unnecessary.

Chapter 1
To start the quest, go talk to King Narnode Shareen in the Grand Tree. He will tell you that the 10th royal squadron went to decommission the fleet Glough was having built but he had not heard from them. He sends you to Glough’s boatyard on Karamja with his royal seal. Go to the boatyard (it’s just across the slippery log) and talk with the guy outside the gate. He will let you in. Go talk to G.L.O. Caranok in the building to the south. He’ll tell you he will see to the decommissioning personally and that you should go back to the king. Go back to the Grand Tree (use the glider just a little bit south of the boatyard), climb down the tree and talk to the king again.

The king will now give you orders to take to Daero (he’s in Blurberry’s bar on the second level to the east of the tree), who will inform you of your mission. He will show you the secret glider hangar. You’ll be told that Glough put a reinitialization code on the hangar which must be solved to keep it powered. Talk to Waydar about it and he will tell you you can try to decode it yourself. Click on the control panel (it’s freestanding, on the east side of the hangar about where you appear in the hangar) and solve the slide puzzle. Alternatively, find Glough and pay him 200k for the code.

If you’re not all ready to go, use the teleporter to the southeast and walk up to the Grand Tree bank. Once you have what you’ll need (food, prayer and antipoison potion, food, ring of dueling, armor and weapon, gold bar, ball of wool) go back to Daero and have him take you back to the hangar. Talk to Waydar to be taken to “Crash Island.”

Chapter 2
Talk to Lumdo about taking you over to “Ape Atoll.” He will tell you he can’t, that he has orders to stand watch over the gliders. Talk to Waydar, who will order Lumdo to take you to the atoll while he guards the gliders.

Once you’re on the island, head north to the ridge, then follow it west/northwest. When you get to a pond on the more northerly oriented part of the ridge, put on protect from range and keep heading north. You will be shot repeatedly by the monkey archers guarding the gate, and you’ll be put in jail. Get up and drink some antipoison. (There’s a glitch where sometimes when you’re jailed you can’t get up. If you can’t, log out and back in; you’ll be back to normal. Don’t click around too much while you’re down or you might find yourself somewhere dangerous when you log in again. Especially don’t click on the cell door!) Talk to Lumo.

Wait until the guard gorillas have gone to the room at the northwest side of the jail, then pick the lock on the cell door. Run to the food store just south of the jail, putting on protect from ranged when you get close to the door. You can steal bananas from the table to heal (the time this takes also allows your energy to refill). Take as many as you need and fill up your inventory if you need to. Be sure not to talk to any monkeys, or you will quickly find yourself in jail again.

When you’re ready to continue, put on protect from ranged again and run to the crafting store to the east. If you need to pray, get ready to switch to protect from melee and run into the temple just east of the crafting store. Go up the stairs at the north. The High Priest will be there, but he will not hurt you. Click on the gorilla statue to pray. South of the temple is a smaller building. Using protect from ranged once you leave the temple, run around behind (to the east side) this building and talk to Garkor.

Chapter 3
Garkor will tell you to find Zooknock. Use your ring of dueling now to go to Al Kharid. Now is a good time to bank, then glide to the Grand Tree. Talk to Daero to go back to the hangar, and to Waydar to go back to Crash Island. Have Lumdo take you back to Ape Atoll. Follow the southern shore of the atoll until you see the dungeon symbol. Climb down the bamboo ladder and turn on protect from melee and run. Start running. Follow this very excessively long tunnel all the way to the end. You will probably run out of energy and prayer about halfway through, so take a prayer potion and if you can get it super energy potion will probably also be useful. You’ll also need an antipoison while you’re in here.

Talk to Zooknock, who will tell you he wants to disguise you as a monkey. Be sure to talk to him about all the things you’ll need.
•For a monkeyspeak amulet you’ll need magic dentures, a mold and a gold bar (and the ball of wool so you can wear it).
•For a monkey talisman you will need monkey remains and an uncharged talisman
*You can make both of these once you’ve finished the quest, so you can save time, if you want, by only making a karamja monkey talisman now. Later you can go back and make as many others as you’d like.*

If you feel up to it, run back out of the dungeon. Or teleport again and use the gliders. Get sent back to jail, just like you did at the start. Escape to the food store and heal as necessary. Look at the minimap and find a small building with a wall extending southward. When you’re ready, put on protect from ranged and run down the east side of this building, then around the south side of the very large building attached to that wall. There’s a door there which you should enter. Carefully search the crates, staying in the dark part of the floor, until you find the dentures. If you find the crate with the cavern underneath first, tell it you don’t want to go in yet. Once you have the dentures enter the cavern. Be prepared, you’re going to fall and lose around 20 hits. Go to the northern side of the part of the cavern you fell in and find the crate behind the stalagmite. Search the crate to the west of the stalactite to get a monkey amulet mold. Go through the narrow passage to the other part of the cavern and climb the rope, or, if you have both a mold and dentures now, teleport to Al Kharid.

Restock at the bank and go back to Zooknock in the tunnel. Use the mold, the gold bar and the dentures on him. He will enchant your gold bar and hand you back the bar and the mold. Take these to the temple in the city. Find the trapdoor to the east and climb down. Use the bar on the wall of flame found on either side of the ladder. Run to the safe spot at the north and west of the level you’re on to add the string and take a break.

You’ll probably want to teleport out to restock and retrieve your monkey remains. Make sure you put on your monkeyspeak amulet. Go back to Ape Atoll and back to jail. On the minimap you should see a tan building northwest of the jail. When you escape, run here. Just outside this building on the west side are some banana trees and a monkey child. You will need to talk to the child without getting caught by the monkey’s aunt. If the aunt interrupts your conversation with the child, run back into the tan building. If you’re fast enough you’ll avoid being jailed again. The child will tell you he’s not supposed to talk to strangers, so tell him you’re not a stranger and that you are his uncle. He’ll tell you that he’s supposed to pick bananas but it’s boring. Offer to help. Pick some bananas (or go steal at banana store), perhaps 5 or 10. Take them back to the child and tell him that there are 20 (apparently neither he nor his aunt can count). Talk to him again and he will tell you his aunt gave him a toy. Ask to borrow it.

Take this talisman and the karamja monkey corpse to Zooknock and use them on him. He will make a “monkey greegree.” Hold this and just enjoy being a monkey for a while. Nothing on the island will attack you while you are disguised as a monkey, although you can still be hurt by falling rocks or floor spikes. You can buy things at the stores as a monkey as well. I had one disappear when I teleported, so turn back into yourself if you don’t want to walk out of the tunnel.

When you’re ready to go on, go back to Garkor and talk to him. You don’t have to be thrown in jail anymore, just walk in the gate, a little farther up from where the monkey archers usually catch you. He’ll tell you he wants you to pretend you’re an envoy from Karamja and you want an alliance. Talk to the elder guard on the south side of the small building. He will tell you to go see Kruk, the captain of the monkey guard. You will find him by going all the way to the west of the island, then south. Climb up on the ridge and walk all the way to the tower. Climb the ladder, cross the bridge and climb down. Kruk will be right there. Talk to him. He will take you back to that small building. Talk to Awowogei. He will ask you to free a monkey from the Ardougne zoo to prove your worth. Ask the elder guard to leave.

Walk around to the east side of the building and turn back into yourself. Teleport to Al Kharid, then go to Ardougne. When you get to the zoo talk to the monkey minder. Turn yourself into a karamja monkey and talk to the monkey minder again. He’ll put you into the exhibit. Talk to a monkey and convince him to jump in your backpack. Turn back into yourself and talk to the monkey minder. *Removing your monkeyspeak amulet won’t shut the monkey up, you just won’t be able to understand him.

WALK to the Grand Tree (the monkey will disappear if you teleport) and use the gliders to go back to Ape Atoll. Turn yourself back into a monkey and go back to Awowogei. Now go talk to Garkor. After you watch the dialogue, talk to Garkor again. He will give you a sigil, which you should wear ONLY when you are ABSOLUTELY ready to fight the demon.

Chapter 4
The easiest method for killing the demon is to use magic or range. I used 47 fire blasts at 66 magic. When you’re ready to get started, put on the sigil. It doesn’t matter where you are, you’ll be teleported to the battleground. Just stand where you can see your progress but the demon can’t melee you. Turn on protect from magic and fire away. The demon will heal a little near the end. The gnomes will help you a little, but it’s mostly you. When the demon’s dead, talk to Garkor. He will send you to talk to Zooknock, who will teleport you back to the monkey city. Your monkey disguise will help here, just walk back to Lumdo on the beach and ask to be taken to crash island. Have Waydar take you back to the Gnome Stronghold. Talk to Narnode Shareen, who will give you your reward and send you to Daero for additional training.

Reward:
20k xp in attack, strength, defense and hits. 15k additional xp in each of attack and defense OR strength and hits, your choice. Narnode will give you 10k gp and 3 cut diamonds. You can also be a monkey (any type you have a talisman for) within the limits of Ardougne zoo and anywhere on Ape Atoll.

biglaugh.gif Thanks

Alex, I would've tried your suggestion, but I discovered that the magic panel is unavailable while one is a monkey.

You can, but last time I did my talisman disappeared (not just back to my inventory, completely gone) and I turned back into me.

QUOTE

If you're a monkey, you can walk out through the front gate. Otherwise, none that I know of.

QUOTE

I had the demon at a corner of the inner square and I was back along the square 4 or 5 spaces. If you get your demon on the other side of the inside square from you, you can move toward it along a side and it can't get you.
