I know that this may come as a surprise, but bear with me for a second... I have a reason for it as usual.

As we all know, we came from Runescape and there were known as 'SeeD'. Now that we are a multi-game clan, however, this was indirectly changed. Now 'SeeD' is technically 'SeeD in Runescape'... And I do not really feel that it does justice to our clan in the very game in which we formed and existed for three years.

Along with this, in many games 'SeeD' is not an applicable guild name... Nor is anything from a copyrighted game such as FFVIII. So basically, this is an easy source of confusion. From a new member's perspective, he/she would be joining some great new clan that also has ties in other games. Upon coming to the community, the member of... say... The Corrorians would be surprised to see that the multi-game guild's name is actually related to FFVIII. It would cause them to wonder why, and also this could indirectly undermine the faction itself.

The other way around, however, this confusion would not exist. A clan named after something in FFVIII is more compatable with a general clan name than vice versa - it is a likely burden for faction leaders in the long run if nothing is done about this.

For these reasons, I'm considering changing the name of our multi-game clan and letting 'SeeD in Runescape' just be 'SeeD' as it always has been as well as decreasing this chance of confusion. SeeD in any other game would be treated as they are currently (and FFVIII names would still be possible for them).

Please reply with what you think and whether or not you agree.

As for a name, I am thinking of something relating to DarkStorm since it is our own world and we would never have to worry about copyright issues or anything of that sort. Would have to be something all-encompassing so the factions could all visibly be a part of it (for those who know anything about DStorm)... perhaps something like Legion of Arcana?

You know that we're expanding into other games and everything, and how factions can exist and whatnot? SeeD has expanded into other games, and while our overall clan is called SeeD at this moment it both causes confusion in other games as well as requires the categorization of our clan in RS. I am saying that it could be a good idea to change the name of the all-encompassing clan (SeeD in its expanded form) to prevent this confusion and allow "SeeD in Runescape" to go back to just being called "SeeD".

It will be the same clan, just a second name to make things make more sense and to make it applicable in the games to which we are expanding.

I wouldn't mind. I'll still be part of the RS faction, so I'll still be a SeeD Only thing is that, off the top of my head, I can't think of a good name that would represent SeeD as a whole...

And you might still get copyright issues... though it's not likely. Most companies would just be worried about legal stuff, but a few (mainly non-mainstream MMORPGs I assume) would want to keep copyrighted stuff out simply to maintain the fantasy atmosphere.

Since SeeD was from a final fantasy game... perhaps more groups from final fantasy?

Warriors of Light(FF1) (well... not really... dont quite remember the name)

I have nothing against "SeeD" (obviously ) or other FF names, I'm just thinking that we could possibly get a name which isn't from another known game if a name change is to happen about now. There are a few games which are particular about this, and since we are technically going into all games it would probably be a good idea to plan for it ahead of time. I'm thinking either something new or something relating to our community entirely to prevent the possible headaches.

Also, new members from other games will have a first impression - the faction which they joined... And then a second impression which builds on the faction. I'm afraid that any conflicting associations will create the wrong image of the place and undermine the faction itself. It's a little difficult to explain why, it is just another minor implied conflict of goals or conflict of image which could cause unnecessary confusion for the faction leaders. This conflict would only exist if the name is actually associated with something; a name of our own design would not be associated with anything else and wouldn't create these subconscious inquiries.

We could call it... CurvedSpace! Not the most original name, but it has the advantage of not being something random and brand new. The only problem I can see is it might create the image of us merely being a community, rather than all the clans being linked. That's not really something we want.

Same as Phi, I like being a SeeD. I can understand some of what you're saying though. I'll probably still call myself a SeeD though, so that's fine.
