yarr, i quite agree with that statement, final. and says who there are other organisms (yes, i know, big words) that dont require the same stuff as us to live? i could share a part of the history of my somewhat hippy-type family and how it relates to aliens, but lets save that for a rainy day, shall we? grnwink.gif and no, it does NOT involve abductions, for those wondering bluetongue.gif

As far as I know, there is a 1 in 20.000 chance that one planet in a galaxy (yes, a galaxy) has a chance of containing life. Yes, I do believe in "aliens", as in I believe in life on other planets, but I also believe that those planets are waaaay to far away for us to ever get in touch with them.

Besides, how would we know? In the big picture of the/all universe(s), we have only the head of a pin's idea of what's out there. From within our own universe, we have a fair idea that it is extremely unlikely for there to be living organisms somewhere out there. However, past there, the possibilities are endless.

yes, aliens are real alien2.gif , but not like the ones the hillbilly's describe as the people-obducting-anal-probing devils very_first_smiley.gif abduct.gif . the hillbillies are most likely just high. that, or drunk. hippy.gif
This was totally out-dated.
Now it's updated.

water is essential to life. nothing can live without water

Total B.S.. As far as we know, life on other planets could be electrical signals through crystallized rocks instead of neural signals through brain cells.

For anyone that is a little confused, when Traver said 20.000 he meant twenty thousand, quite a few countries swap around , and . when it comes to numbers. grnwink.gif

And I pretty much agree with Traver. While the chances of life existing on some level are very good, the chances of it being close enough to us to detect is extremely low. And since the chances of finding a way to travel faster than light is also quite low, we may as well be alone in the universe.

I agree with the 20K... It's quite likely that there is at least a 1:20,000 chance that other life (And even more if you want to go for sentient life...) exists somewhere out there. However, think about it. 1 in 20,000, and most likely millions... even billions or trillions of planets or places that might, in some way, be habitable for some kind of life form.

Hyper, I think you might have misunderstood. He was saying there was a 1 in 20k chance of there being a single planet sustaining life within our entire galaxy, not that 1 in 20k planets could sustain life. grnwink.gif

Aliens are real. bluetongue.gif There are probably billions of galaxies in the universe. We barely know much about the Milky Way, so there's no telling what's out there.

The chances of them being close to us is very slim. A lot of reasons could keep life off Earth. A little closer, too hot; a little farther, too cold; thinner atmosphere, Earth could be covered with craters; the list goes on. So most planets are unlikely to have life and those that could probably not close.

If they're as far as the closest planets that could hold life, they would have to be advanced to the point to where they can go the speed of light (Which would kill humans if we could go that fast.) to meet us.

K. here we go:
(i'm going to temporaraly acept evolution for this arguent, dont ask, dont want ot go off topic)
1. it took us like, 5bilion years to evolve (ish)
2. we can figure, that ifevolution ocured elswere in the universe, it took about the same amount of time
3. so that means this: if there are aliens (probly are) then they are about as technologicaly advanced as we are (logicaly, if they evlolved ANYthing like we did) thus, aliens can't have visited us yet, but they could exit.

yeah, its bad enough that the boxing day tsunami knocked the earth off its axis, lets hope the moon doesnt go anywhere next.

and for those wondering, yes, the tsunami did knock the earth off its axis, by 2 centimetres. i know it doesnt sound like much, but just think.....it knocked the WHOLE PLANET off its axis. lets hope we dont get any more earthquakes registering 8 on the richter scale, eh?

and good on ya ziggywolf, i knew thered be more of us alien-believing-in-peoples.
