The games have the rating Mature for a reason, if you get influenced easy enough, that someone in a game shoots a gun and you think your allowed to, then they really shouldnt be playing in the first place.

QUOTE(Nighthawk551 @ Apr 13 2005, 08:28 PM)
QUOTE(Kaiser @ Apr 13 2005, 04:29 PM)
It looks like a good idea. Kids shouldn't be allowed to buy violent games like GTASA and the other game you mentioned. If kids are going to buy M games, they should have a parent or guardian buy them for them. (Show ID, stuff like that.) That's the problem. Games like GTA influence kids to think "If a video game can be made out of it, well it must be OK!" (I've actually had someone say that to me.)

But it's a good idea, and I'm with Base in hoping this will spread to other states.

Makes sense. I'd go with that. Hopefully this will keep kids from getting the "wrong idea" about the difference of virtual reality and reality itself.

Dude if you can't desifer games from rl, you've got to be retarded.....

People can figure reality from games. Smart people.

Kids get these games, and get the idea "If they make a game about it, it can't be that bad.."

Seriously. GTA: You play as a guy that steals cars, shoots people, stuff like that. (Never played, so I don't know exactly.) It's a game. Games are meant to be fun. Sure, stealing someones car and running around shooting innocent people is fun. Even in a virtual world, it can make someone cold to the real thing.

If you have a video game made about a criminal, people will see it and say, "Oh! A game about crime! If they made a game about it, it must mean it's fun to really do!"

No. I don't blame video games for violence. I blame the idiots that play influential games and act on them.

dude, if your dumb enough to see a game where you kill people and say "ohh it can't be that bad if they made a game about it" you shouldn't be playing games in the first place, or, you shouldn't be outside without a straeightjacket....

The world is an amazing place. I assure you, there ARE people that stupid who play games.

Off topic about stupid people playing games:

Check out the majority of freeplayers on Runescape, and even some members. That'll show you how many stupid people play games.

I would think so. You see one stupid person, how can you tell the next guy isn't an idiot? Their not taking any chances, and I don't blame them.

(Fixed that thing for you. Try to relax, man.)

If you're going to buy an M rated game, have a parent there to buy it with you if you can't buy it yourself. And if your parents don't want you to have an M rated game, then you shouldn't want to buy one.

I've had people tell me I look 20+, and I'm 16....

I thought it was M games, not T. And if a game portrays you shooting someone to kill them, I personally think they should have a higher rating than T. Shooting someone with the intent of killing, (even in james bond games, Halo, whatever) It just seems to me like, "Hey! I shot a guy!" A thought like that shouldn't make someone happy. Even if it's virtual. Shooting games harden people to things like that.

Amen.

I'm fourteen (soon to be fifteen.) And I drive. Do I drink? The occassional beer or box wine on occassions...Maybe a bit of schnapps at ice fishing. biglaugh.gif hehehe...Do I smoke? No. But could all of that change if my mind were naive and young? OFCOURSE!

A game can be like a brainwashing machine. Or as that one guy said.

As far as age goes...I've had people in theater mistaken me for being sixteen or seventeen...Coming up to me saying, "You know 'so-and-so'? He should be in your class...You're a junior, right?" Well.....Obviously appearance isn't everything. grnwink.gif I think you should need ID or be with an elder.

The funny thing is there is two problems with this little bill of evil.

1. If your into the violent games then you already know where they are going to be in the store.

2.Getting in is still going to be the same of just buying a M rated game anyway with the fact of you have an adult you get in.

What they should do instead is put the money from this bill and put it into the ERSB ratings to help them educate the parents about these games,or the parents teach their kids the difference between real and fantasy.

If you act out murder or theft because of a game, you definately had problems to deal with before you played the game. Just like Kaiser said:

QUOTE

Exactly. They were quite stupid beforehand, right? The point is, if there is any part of your mind that would consider needlessly committing a serious crime, and a game can draw on that, you needed help a long time before the game. Everyone knows what is in GTA. If it sounds like a lot of fun to you, well, then I rest my case.

The rating system is working, but it needs a lot of reforms. Clerks need to card ANYONE who buys a game, from the talk of everyone saying they are mistaken for older people. I think a separate section would be too much of a hassle, and isn't necissary. Box art will not influence anyone to go kill people.
