Should black people be paid reparations for slavery? For those that don't know, reparations are sums of money paid to the descendants of slaves. I'll jump in the debate later.

No, blacks shouldn't be given money because there Great, great grandfather was a slave. I mean should Europe be paid money because there relavtives were killed by america In our freedom? No, And should whites be given money if a black guy killed or used a white reletive as a slave? no, It doesn't work nor sdould it work that way.

Slavery was stupid, America was stupid, But now thats all changed. I mean that would be like saying that when a white guy is kileld by a balck gang his great, great grandson gets paid. It's just stupid

Not at this time. It was too long ago for it to matter today.

by principle, yes, they should be paid. Africans were forced out of their homeland and taken here to toil under masters they didn't even know. despite them having all the features of a human being, they were refused human treatment (and to a lesser degree, still are now - it's called racism, folks) and countless Africans were worked, quite literally, to death. and one cannot forget about the families being torn apart, the lynchings, the rapes, the murders, every crime that can be thought of that has been committed - the victim had not even chosen to come to America; the victim had been dragged here, only to be beaten to death. their offspring has every right to be paid for their ancestors' work and suffering. which leads me to my next point.

if every black man in America was paid for his ancestors' work, America would go bankrupt. The wealth of Bill Gates would not be able to repay even a small neighborhood of African-Americans if they were to be paid in full for their ancestors' hard work and misery - if a women is awarded $100,000 for breaking her back in a restaurant because she slipped on a puddle of water that she had put there (she threw the water at her boyfriend) five minutes prior (i read this in a news article somewhere a while ago), think of the magnitude of money that should be awarded to EACH black man. America could not possibly attempt to pay reparations, because that sum would be gargantuan. so what does America do about it? it quietly puts the topic off in a little corner hoping everyone will forget about it grnwink.gif

then what about families like mine? they pay the taxes that would go to reperations. but my family (im going by the farthest weve traved the names) comes from an irish guy (mom's side) and 2 german bros that came to this country in like the early 1800's ..... poor immagrant families cant really afford slaves, so why should famlies like mine who never had slaves pay reperations.

or better yet. mexican immagrants (ones who have gained permanant citizenship. Those guys i have respect for) ...... i know they never had slaves. they pay taxes... y should they pay reperations?

because they have no qualms about living in a country whose past has been stained with the blood of those dragged in chains out of their homeland?
