Dude, A 21 year old white guy in a roles, in the worst area of town, driving around and talking to guys on street corners, is not just "a guy with a nice car"...

Tell you what, I'll go rent a Porsche for the afternoon and go drive around West Palm Beach and talk to every black guy I see at every corner, tell your dad to come and stop me. thumb.gif

Wait, so talking to people on street corners is illegal now?

my position is somewhere in between Mobster's and Baseball's. mobster has a point; many people do hold the stereotype that the majority of the black people are criminals (which is not true, although crime rates tend to be higher in predominantly black neighborhoods). so yeah, if i saw a black guy walking towards me, and i was in a bad neighborhood, i'd be scared. however, it's not true that cops (good ones anyway) immediately search blacks/mexicans driving around in high-end cars. a cop might hold the belief that the guy might be carrying drugs, but he cant do jack unless the guy was speeding or something, which the cop can then use as an excuse to search his car. watch law and order. i learned a lot from it TheSmile.gif
of course, i still dont really know much about the legal system, so...bluetongue.gif

Yep, you must have a moving violation (speeding, improper lane change, failure to signal, broken components, etc...) in order to be stopped.

QUOTE(Baseballl @ May 7 2005, 02:55 PM)
I was obviously a cop for 4 years and now I work for the government, so don't act like I don't. In order to stop someone legally, they must have completed a moving violation or have a warrant for their arrest. You can't stop someone because they have a nice car or because they are black or white.

I'm not sure this is relevant, but.

While driving on the highway getting back from a vacation, my family was pulled over and randomly searched...>.< This is a caucasian family of 4, my parents are mid 40's...

We weren't speeding, no moving violations...

Was that illegal? X_x

He probably shouldn't have stopped you (unless there was a reason you don't know about), but your dad gave him consent to search the vehicle.

There are drug task forces that stop random vehicles and ask them for consent to search and tell them it is a drug task force, but it doesn't mean you have violated any law. That might have been the case.

Excuse me people, I watch Third Watch, I know what I'm talking about Suave_anim.gif

Getting back on topic now, Baseballl and Mobster...

of course racsism shouldn't be used as an excuse, Police Officers are just doing their job, if a suspicious person is called in and they see a suspicious person, then what's the problem?

if a white cop searched a black man, and the black man takes him to court for rascism, he'd probably win. If a black cop searched a white man, and the white guy takes him to court for rascism, it would be thrwon out...

Thats real rascism.

Unfortunately, especially in the US, cops are accused of racism and portrayed of it in the left-wing media more often than not.  I agree that this is extremely unfair.

Frankly, with how high crime rates are in the US, we need to strengthen our police force rather than continually weakening it...

I agree also. The racial conflicts and issues just need to be resolved. It's all because of the remaining grudge imprinted into society by slavery. Often the media causes these tensions to become tighter nonono2.gif .

Just for the record, the media is left-wing anymore... Icky_anim.gif

Uhh..Ok should have said this sooner...hehe...my dad WAS on the drug task force....hehehe..guess I should have mentioned that...

But, when your a cop in a town like mine, you know the place, If a young white guy in a roles is in the drug area of town, he's either lost or a doper. It's commen sense when you know your town. He didn't do random searches, no, He was on the drugs task forece...and hey..again EVERYONE uses racial profiling. It's just commen sense when you know your town.

This isn't a debate about your dad.

This is a debate about racial profiling and such.

I have heard a LOT of times where a person is "racist" because he didn't agree with or inconvinced a black person. Nevermind the said black person is often speeding or whatever.

Have people been harassed because they are black before? Yes, so it is POSSIBLE for it to happen, but a police officer can't just arrest someone because the officer is racist. I seriously doubt it happens as often as it is heard, if at all.
