I would like to know what all of your positions are on affirmative action. Whether you're strongly opposed, strongly for, or just iffy. Or anything in between. As most of you probably know, you could probably define affirmative action as, shall we say, giving oppurtunities that would not regularly present themselves to such minorities as african-americans.

Personally, I'm against it. I understand that, in the past, certain minorities have been subject to extreme prejudice, but the reality is that what matters is the current situation at hand. To give out extra credits, or accept certain races before others, is just showing too much... unfairness.

i'm just a little iffy towards it. affirmative action is not only just considering minorities. it's actually based on the principle of flattening out the racial graphs of colleges. what i mean by that is, colleges have graphs of their students who are of different races. statistically, african americans and native americans are lowest on the graphs. caucasians and asians are the highest, at least i think. what they aim to do, is equalize all the races in that graph by a certain year. therefore, though being a minority, asians actually are at a disadvantage when applying to such things as colleges. affirmative action isnt really an effective system. being a native american basically lands you in any college of your choice and therefore defeats the purpose of competition, which is to select only the best. i'm not that strongly opposed to it, though. i think it's based on a good principle, just wrongly carried out. it's not doing what its supposed to be doing, which is evening out the playing field for all races.

I don't really agree with it. Things that happened in the past (i.e. slavery) cause society (caucasians mainly) to feel "sorry" for the minorities and the treachery of the white man's past. Many years have passed, and racial ties have for the most part been re-bonded. Affirmative action is not fair in this day and age.

Affirmative action, hate crime laws, gang genocides, etc. etc. etc. The once persecuted have become the persecutors. Pure racism that would make MLK turn over in his grave.

I'm part native american, so I actually benefit greatly from affirmativ action (I don't know what they do about people who are racially impure...). Despite this benefit, I'm still against the fundamental idea of equalization. It gives unfair advantages to people who don't necessarily deserve them.

even if you're only partially native american (i know someone who checked Native American on their things, and she was like 1/256 native american or something), you can get the benefits. i think there's a certificate of authenticity issued or something to native americans, i'm not sure. if you don't have one yet, check it out, and if such a thing exists, get it!! if you havent gone to college yet, being Native American will help you greatly in getting into the college of your choice.

I'm for it. I don't think it helps Asian Americans like me, but there is still plenty of racism everywhere. Whites don't know it, because they have no clue what racism is. They've never experienced. The others have.

a white guy scores 80
a minority guy scores 80
the minority shouldent get the (whatever) just b/t they r black or asian or mexican or anything else. instead it should just be based on something else other than the color of ones skin. all of these minotity leaders (modern ones not mlk. mlk was cool) go on preaching about equality and a "color/racially blind" society. yet these same people are going for things like affirmative action or reperations which is ALL about the color of people's skin.

That another one of the problems that I have with rights like this, somewhere you have to draw the line. Come on, that 1/256 is saying that your 8 generations ago, someone was native.
