If suddenly someone you didn't like became head of your country would you assasinate them? My friend asked me this if Micheal Jackson became prez and i said i would. If someone is considered "bad" does this justify death?

Heh, almost half the country was against Bush for becoming President, and they didn't assassinate him whne he was elected.

Well, if we ever did have someone get elected for president that doesn't deserve it (Like Michael jackson
), then you'd probably be worrying about other things in the crazy world.

nothing justifies the death penalty. doesn't matter how wicked the person is. life in prison living with the guilt is far worse in the long run anyway. death penalty is the easy way out for some.

The death penalty isn't necessarily more cost-effective ... with the amount of time people spend on death row and the abuse of the habeus corpus appeals system, it takes forever to go through with executions. Make the death penalty cost efficient by tweaking those...
Living with the "guilt" isn't punishment for most murderers. Most do not tend to make moral distinctions and do not feel remorse at all for what they do. The only way to make them suffer much of the time is to kill them.
The death penalty itself doesn't seem to be the issue here but I ended up babbling about it anyway. I wrote a research paper about it last year. I'll have to dig that up and post a link to it.
Frankly I'm a realist, and I know quite well that a revolting and evil person like Michael Jackson would NEVER be elected to office. Thank God (/Allah/Jehova/Vishnu/wtfever) people have that much common sense.
I take that back. After all, Hitler was democratically elected as Chancellor in Germany. I wouldn't be the vigilante to take the assassination of a very bad president into my own hands, but I'd support the assassination full scale if a tyrant (or someone like Michael Jackson) came to power.

That should no longer happen in the world powers. Although as much as everyone "hates" the government, when the country actually turns 90% fully against a govnment, there is a good chance that they are going to be overthrown in any country. I'm not saying that if the government makes one stupid decision that the country is going to turn on them, but if they continuosly make stupid decsions the people will turn. This works for anything of power, if people all of a sudden hate how the constitution is written and don't live by it, the document no longer exists.
