Well recently I've heard a few comments that the rules list needs a little better organisation, or that it's not likely to be seen by new members. A couple of possible solutions struck me.

First of all, the most important thing to do will be to gather together some of the rules which aren't in the 'Revised Rules' topic, rules that have sort of come together when they're needed. A recent example would be the advertising issue, or about Banned people talking to Admins if they want to be considered for coming back. These caused more trouble than they should have, because the rules had been mentioned in passing but were not really listed anywhere easily accessible. This is probably the hardest part of my idea, it can be really hard to think of these 'unwritten rules'. icon_sweatdrop.gif

The other issue is allowing this new and moderately complete set of rules to be easily accessible, whether or not members have much experience at SeeD.

I suggest either a redirect link to the topic to be put directly at the top of Announcements (and probably Newcomers as well). Alternatively, I suggest an admin/smod creates one of those forum 'announcement' things linking to it permanently, the ones that appear at the top of each board before it gets to the pinned topics. The first idea wouldn't interfere with day-to-day posting as much, but the second has the advantage of being far more easily noticeable by new members. It doesn't really matter all that much which is implemented, or if something entirely different is done, I just think an effort has to be made to fix some of the bugs that many of you have noticed in the system.

Thanks for reading, and please post any other possible ideas you have. I don't really care in the slightest if my ideas are implemented as they are, I'm more interested in SeeD working as efficiently and trouble-free as possible. thumb.gif

We already have them do that (or is that just the IPB agreement?).
I think Mr. Goat is right, that would be a good idea grnwink.gif

Whoa, I'd forgotten completely about this.

Check the date of my post, it's late march. bluetongue.gif
The topic never got any response, so I kinda forgot about it.

Hmmm... I'm not certain, but I think something along the lines of the second part was actually incorporated. When the forums became the integrated 'Portal' system, the rules topic became a section of the site, it's 'Forum Rules' under Administrative on the left sidebar. While it may not jump out, if people are looking for rules it's always there for them to find.

However, if people can think of rules which are enforced but which are not listed there, feel free to post them. A list of rules is only any good if it's kept up to date.
