I just felt like making a list of things to consider when putting together your signature. You dont have to do anything I say, but I'm asking that you at least think about it.

1. Marquees.
-Keep in mind that vertical marquees are not required to be supported by all browsers, so for some people your marquee might show its whole length or not show up at all. Hoirzontal marquees are supported by all browsers, so you dont have to worry about those

2. Resolutions.
-Try not to have signatures that are more than 550 pixels wide, becuase on 800x600 resolutions (counting in the docks and avatar area) this is the biggest picture size that does not add a horizontal scrollbar. Also, some people might have their browser minimized, which will add a horizontal scrollbar even if it is less.

3. Pictures.
-Try not to have more than 1 different picture sig, most people find it annoying (I'm NOT talking about pictures that arn't sigs, like the quote things or just random pictures).

4. Size.
-The most important part, the size. If your sig takes up more than 3/4 of the screen on the smallest resolution, its a bit too big.


A good way to work around these problems is having mini-sigs, like the one I have right now. Trust me, a 260x60 picture can look cooler than you think. If you need one, PM me and I'll make you one

500x30 ish sigs like mine also work well
if you have a lot of text you would like to have in your sig, you could do like i did with my RS stats for a while, which is to grab a geocities acount, and put it on a page and make a link to it and put it in your sig. (that way, if somone wants to see it, they can look, but it does not make long load times)

If you get more than like 7-10 though, I would suggest animating them so its all of them in the same amount of room as 1

A few things...

First, marquees, I found an alternative via Javascript. Should work fine for most people.

Second, images, 798 doesn't cause scrolling at 800x600? I'd think that's still too wide; don't forget that a large space on the left is taken up by the user info colum, plus there's a vertical scroll on the right, and (to top it off) if you're using the docked forums you have the Portal's sidebars to deal with. I don't know what the "correct" limit is, but 798px still seems too high

Thirdly, yes, I know my own sig is frickin' huge. I'll get around to it eventually

well, my sig comes close to the max width, and its about 520 wide right now, (nrmaly narrower, but it looked better this way lol) so i say if your sig is 550 or less its ok for most resolutions.
