As many SeeDs probably know, our clan is almost 14 months old, and we now have over 300 members. The size of our clan and our influence on Runescape has exponentially increased over the past year, and at this rate (if it continues the way it is now) we will have over 600 members around October of this year. Whether we can handle that number is another matter, and one of our main goals for 2003 is structuring SeeD to handle the number of members without sacrificing anything. I do not know of any other clans having over 300 members, and I feel that if we continue (without major problems), we may be on the road to greatness (as some may say I guess bluetongue.gif ). But I'm not just saying this for our sake, as one of the goals which I will mention below will possibly impact the game as a whole. I have posted this to inform everyone on what we're working on "behind the scenes", and what our possible "huge update" will be (as some may remember from the site a while ago). I am going to list things in the order of which they will most likely occur, but keep in mind that changes are expected.

Specialized Leadership Roles
(Probably sometime in February): To help improve our service to all our members, we will be looking for specialized leaders to help better serve the clan. Expect ranks such as "Supreme War Commander", "Event Coordinator", and "Head Distributor of Arms" to appear.

Clan Blacksmith
(May happen sometime in March): This is a controversial update, and may or may not happen. Chances are that it will eventually, but we have to find a way so that there are no "losers" in this process. What this is, is basically a process where the clan will provide ores to assist one member with reaching a very high smithing level. This member, the "Clan Blacksmith", will then be obligated to provide high level armor to our members for free or very low prices. There are currently threads about this topic, and if you would like to make comments or ideas regarding this update, please post them in the specific threads pertaining to the Clan Blacksmith.

SeeD May Appear in Other Online Games
(Probably will happen around April-May): Well, since I've been receiving tons of messages regarding the promised "huge update", this is it. Before you say that this is a bad idea, keep in mind that I'm not the only one thinking that this would be good for the clan. Nova Dreamer, too, agrees that this would benefit the clan. Prior to this update, all the necessary precautions will be made to insure that it will not harm our Runescape-based clan (it will remain Runescape-based, but smaller factions will emerge in games such as EverQuest, and possibly games like Ultima Online and Final Fantasy XI). In fact, at first there will probably be no real effect on the clan in Runescape. This is because EverQuest, our first target, already has a great clan support system. The member list will be on the game itself (so I hear), as well as every other essential need for the clan. New game-specific jobs will emerge, but that's about it at first.

I bet you're wondering about how this will improve SeeD. First of all, many SeeDs don't just play Runescape (at least I hope not, lol). Also, some have left to play other games. Why not make SeeD available to them in the games they play?

Ok, this will benefit them, but how about the rest of the clan? Well, it will bring in a lot more traffic. Along with our Runescape-based forums, we can also be a "mini gaming community". We will be known in other games as well, and possibly gain new ideas to benefit the clan as a whole. It will also give SeeD a larger image, and allow for more members to try their hand at leading their own clan in the name of SeeD. biglaugh.gif

This is what Nova Dreamer has to say about this idea: "I think that the expansion of SeeD to other online RPG games is a good and bad idea all in one. By definition our clan is one that is made to promote the peace and to the betterment of all the members of the clan by active participation of the members. For this reason it will work very well if we move to other RPG gmaes where the ability to ally ones self with other players, because we can as a team make a step in progressing to a level of further enjoyment in the game. As well we can protect the games out there from those who wish to create an adverse environment for fellow players. However I also believe this idea has some flaws in that it will only work in certain situations such as Runescape and other Multi Dungeon RPG's with fellow humans. But the biggest worry is the rift in the clan that will be made if there is a sense of two factions of seed who never deal with the other, or a sense of superiority in part of the older members of the original SeeD. I believe it is a very good idea and a good step for the clan, but one that must be marker with caution."

As he said, there will probably be some difficulties. For this reason, we will have to begin this process slowly. If we find that it is not doing well for our clan, we will break our first branch (the EverQuest faction) into its own clan and continue the way we are going right now.

SeeD Will Emerge as the "Peacekeepers of Runescape"
(ongoing process, this seems to be where we're headed): Some may wonder about what I meant when I said "possibly impact the game as a whole", and this is why. Many other clans have tried to do good, by stopping rulebreakers and possibly attacking clans with bad intentions. Quite a few have been successful, but unfortunately haven't been able to influence the game on a larger scale. As our clan grows, I feel that we will be capable of doing more good, attacking rulebreakers and stopping clans with bad intentions (such as "destroy them all" clans, which will cause harm to other clans, specifically the smaller ones which may need more help).

As for how we are doing this, we are currently setting up some new peacekeeping jobs to see how it will turn out. If successful, we will gain the support of many other clans, which will probably help improve our standing with the honest players of Runescape, and help stop the rulebreaking which has been infecting the game since it's creation.

Looking Further Into Our Future: The overall theme of this is that our future is currently undetermined, but that we have quite a few plans and goals for what we think would be best for our clan, and where we are headed. As for the path we take, that will ultimately be decided by our members. I personally feel that SeeD has a bright future, and that there is no better time to be a member than now, when things are really happening, the clan is changing for the better, and our future is constantly being molded by the actions and ideas of all of our members.

I have two questions on this "Huge Update".
Number one:
When will it probably occur?

Number two:
Will some of SeeD's ideas be put into SeeD in this Update?

This is only one update, you can expect other updates to come up as well (I'm just listing some specific things that we're working on, not saying that this is all that will happen) grnwink.gif

Very good post, cspace. You really know how to lengthen your messages. Anyway, one of the big difficulties in combining two games is that on the forums if people ask questions we won't know which one they're talking about. We kinda already have something for that: the Video Game Galaxy Forum. Maybe we can just make a separate forum for everquest and some other stuff on the home page about it and stuff. Peacemakers are a pretty good idea, but I hope that no seeDs get into some guys' conversation and get themself killed because they messed up what the scammer was doing or get themselves hacked. SeeDs might get kind of unhappy because they don't have a powerful role the clan (except for you being the leader, but everyone likes that TheSmile.gif ) so maybe we can do something so that everyone gets included somehow. It will be pretty hard though because of just like what you said before, the clan's members and increasing rapidly and we need someleaders to control it and to not let the clan fall apart. scatter.gif

SeeD has been, and will remain to be a member-driven clan. As is stated in the Rules of SeeD, members should never be forced to do anything that they don't want to do, for SeeD is completely volunteer-based. If any leaders (no matter what rank) have been abusing their role in SeeD, you should let me know and I will handle the situation.

Anyway, we highly consider just about every suggestion and idea thought of by our members. This is because no leader can truly understand how the members would feel about the clan and our policies without their input.

About the forum problem, there are two possible solutions:

- We could set up another forum for the other sections of SeeD. This may not work as well though, for there will be no unity, and it would seem as if we are two different clans.

- We could have categories for the different games, containing all of the necessary clan-related forums. All of the others will remain the same (like the Insanity Board). This will hopefully prevent confusion, and promote a feeling of one clan.

Either way, we will let everyone know how this will be set up well ahead of time. All suggestions are welcome grnwink.gif

In the future seeD we should have something for each garden so that the members can ask the commander about something instead of always going to cspace so that cspace could have some air to breath in. Cspace can inform commanders about new things and everything he can that might be questioned by seeDs so that the commanders themselves don't have to ask cspace about something so that they can answer a seeD's question from their garden. An idea I had was to have a section in the SeeD Forums called the Garden Forums or something like that, and there are forums in that section for every garden and cspace can make it so that only members of the garden can post in the forum for their garden. Yet I realized that this would be way too much work for cspace. I'll try to think of some other way to do this.

Actually, right now that's kinda how things are supposed to work. One of the responsibilities of the commanders is to send clan information to his/her Garden members. They are also supposed to be who the members ask when they have in-game questions about SeeD. The commanders, then, either contact an Elite General, Nova Dreamer, or myself.

As for the Garden forums, we already have them set up. They're in the secondary forum category, and about 4 days ago I set up sub forums for every Garden thumb.gif

Oh, lol, didn't notice that. You should make the commanders mod for their garden sub-forum.

Hey Cspace, do you think we could start sees in Ferion? (www.ferion.com) its a space empire game, and in order to win you need a highly powerful alliance with others. SeeD would work perfectly.
