When I first heard the reporter say it I was like "that croc got owned my a snake...", then I say the picture of the dead, exploded snake and was thinking "was a stupid snake...". bluetongue.gif

What confuses me is how the snake disbaled the croc so that it could send it down the hatch, since I'm sure it didn't just sit there. icon_sweatdrop.gif

What can be more important than an exploding snake? Just like those exploding frogs. Exploding animals are the singlemost important thing in this world, no less.

*Alligator* (rounded snout, black skin, no notch in the upper jaw, prefers fresh water. . . not crocodile - pointed snout, gray skin, notch for the fourth tooth on the lower jaw, prefers salt water)

Talking about this with someone and she said she wouldn't think the 'gator would have the instinct to try and claw its way out (since they generally as adults don't have natural predators), but I would think -anything- being swallowed alive would try to do something. I am curious as to how the snake approached it, and managed to swallow it as far as it did. I suppose if it started at the front it could've held the jaws closed (doesn't take much to do so) but that would still leave the legs free.

But yeah, this is why exotic animals tend to make bad pets. Often 'cause people don't think about what the animal is going to be like in the future. So when they get too big (generally, or too *insert adjective here*) they let them go. Some don't make it, but the ones that do don't have the predators they would in their natural habitat, which allows them to mess up the balance of their new-found habitat.

I'm just saying "croc" since it's a shorter abbreivation than "gator". bluetongue.gif

Based on the photograph, it looks like the snake was able to get the gator's mouth in its own mouth, which must've given the snake its advantage. Although a gator/croc has an insanely strong bite, its strength for opening its mouth is less, so it's the snake biting down vs. the gator trying to open its mouth. That's my guess anyways. icon_sweatdrop.gif

Gator was prolly dead when the snake ate it... The snake would've constricted the alligator blocking blood from getting to the heart and brain. So it couldn't have clawed its way out. The snake is basically all muscle so I doubt the gator could open its mouth in the snake if it were alive. It's harder to open the mouth than close it. bluetongue.gif

While the python *is* a constrictor, the article says the 'gator was alive and the professor they interviewed said it probably tried to claw itself out. . . .
