This weird anime that was on [adult swim] last night... "Kakurembo" I think it was called. The concept was interesting ("Otokoyo is a game of hide-and-seek... kids WILL disappear..."), I enjoyed the animation (cel-shading ftw); hell, since all the characters wear masks the translation was probably spot-on (no changes to match mouth movements) but when it was over I wanted my half-hour back. There was just no substance to it. Some kids go play Otokoyo (one wants to find his sister; others just want to see what it's all about). Demons come out and capture said kids. The last one captured is "it" and tricks the next group of players, and somehow the energy from the rest of them is used to light up the city and lure in more kids to play.

OK, I get what it's all about. But what was the point, again?
