Which country should be blamed fro starting World War One? The Guilt Clause states Germany started it, but what do you think?

not a nation, but a policy.

imperialism - n. The policy of extending a nation's authority by territorial acquisition or by the establishment of economic and political hegemony over other nations. (from www.dictionary.com)

austria, as well as many other nations, was in the practice of pretty much conquering weaker nations. obviously, these nations didnt like that. a Serbian nationalist (i forget his name) assassinated archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sofia, and tensions were already pretty high in Europe at that time. various nations were in alliances with each other, and when a couple of nations entered war, all the other nations in the alliances were forced into it too, thus initiating WWI. this isnt really a topic for debate; its more of a historical fact.

It's actually the archduke's fault. He wins my award for dumbest person to ever live. Yes, the war was inevitable, but it was him who started it. First of all, he was an idiot. He was killed on his (insert high number here)th assassination attempt during a parade to celebrate him conquering the county that the parade was held in. That's like poking a guy holding a machine gun to your face. It's not something a sensible person does. Yes, the alliances were the main cause of the war, but that doesn't change the fact that that man's complete ignorance started the war.

and you know what's even funnier? there was already an assassination attempt on him earlier that day. it failed, and while they were on their way back via a detour, they were shot.

It was Austria-Hungarys fault for taking Bosnia from Serbia in the first place.

Those actions were not considered immoral at that point in time. Granted, that doesn't make it any less wrong...
