I believe that it would be beneficial to our understanding of the environment to pump all of the oil out of the Earth and burn it to see what happens. Some suspect that the increase in CO2 will not do much except change the temperature for a little bit of time, decreasing the ozone a little to expose Australia and a few other places to the radiation from the nuclear fireball 90 million miles away. Nothing that major in the grand scheme of things, and a necessary expense for a temporary benefit to worldwide economies. Others angerly argue that it could change the environment for millions of years (if not forever), since after all Venus is how it is because the CO2 would not fuse in its rocks as it has (at least at the moment) on Earth. When asked, I have not come across anyone yet who would like to live on Venus (but statistics can be deceptive). Others say that the whole worry is unfounded and greenhouse gases won't change our environment.

Regardless, I think it is time we bring this controversy to a conclusion once and for all. Since laboratory and computer simulations don't seem to be enough, and there is no other planet in our solar system that matches Earth's current conditions, we should go ahead and put it to the test at home where we all can see it. It won't kill everyone even in the worst likely circumstances (I don't think), so I don't see what we have to worry about.

I see your point and i am mostly with you. However i would think that we should find another reliable source of energy before going ahead with this proposed plan. Oil is one of our most reliable sources of energy and even though we are running out of it we still will need it as we have no other ways of making energy that easily and sufficiently. Also with new electronic devices coming out all the time we need to use lots of electricity which of course we need lots of energy because millions of people throughout the world will be using it. Non fossil fuels are too unreliable such as the wind farms. There may be no wind. WE still need oil at this moment and although to idea is a good one we are just not ready to go ahead with it. That is my thoughts

Put our money into nuclear fusion and pray for the best. We need better ways of making electricity and better ways of storing it, but until then, we are hopelessly dependent on fossil fuels.

But you would have to agree that it would be interesting to burn all the oil up and see what happens to our atmosphere, take some measurements, the whole bit. The only subject we can test this on is Earth, let's see how tough it is if we apply all the greenhouse gases that can be freed by the oil in the ground.

Surely you cannot say 'no' to an experiment such as the one I'm proposing.

Good news for me, heh. I would have done it, but I no longer need to worry about being the subject of anger and regret when stuff goes wrong.

Hey, uh, great idea with conducting this experiment. My support goes to Exxon and other oil companies in this noble endeavor, so one day we will know (and possibly experience) the truth.
