I caught that, too. Hehe. Canada, eh?

Yes well... Hopefully you're not being sent anywhere anytime soon. TheSmile.gif

just suck it up and go. serving in the army makes you a true man. and by that, i don't mean to appear as some crazed war junkie, but i mean that serving in the army really toughens you up emotionally (as well as physically, especially if you are weak) and straightens out your values. there are few things on the face of the Earth more respectable than a man who is willing to risk his own life for that of a comrade.

if i get drafted, then i'll gladly go and serve, as my service is my repayment to my country for its services to me.

I haven't been drafted. I'm sure you knew that though.

The army dehumanizes you, therefore serving in the army actually makes you less of a man, and more of a machine.

Agreed. Can't say anything better than that.

I wouldn't, I have better things to do. Yes, I like the general ideals of our country, but there are too many people in America that I would just love to see get there dumb faces blown off. I'd fight for my country, but not all my countrymen.

you haven't been drafted, but from what i'm inferring from your posts, it looks as if you'll turn out to be a draft-dodger (if there ever is a draft).

it seems as if you've only watched war movies created by anti-war activists, instead of talking to people who've actually served in the army. once you get around to doing that, though, you'll see that there's another side to war that isn't portrayed in the films that are meant to sway the ignorant public to the anti-war side. people who've been in war form bonds with others that can only be forged through the tribulation of war. and, i've never seen stronger senses of honor and comradery than in those people i've met and talked to who serve in the army.

better things to do, like? America has more than enough engineers, doctors, lawyers, and most of all, cowards.
but you claim cowardice is not the reason for your reluctance; you simply do not want to fight for people whom you detest. if that is a valid reason, then no one should serve. everyone has some enemies in his own country. everyone has complaints against his own country or the people living in it. why doesn't everyone else think like you? there would be no one in the armies to fight with or against, and there'd be world peace!

It depends on what war they'd send me to and in what position. I wouldn't mind going to war in a non combat postion, but if I had to be in any postition that had substantial risk, it had beter be for a war I agreed with morally. In other words, no vietnams, koreas or persian golfs... We shouldn't have been in a war after WW2, period.

You would have no choice and if you did dodge it you would go to jail, so good luck. However, a draft will probably never happen.

I really couldn't see myself dodging the draft, but it's not like I wouldn't be legally able to resent having been drafted. Like Base said, the odds of it happenening are slim, so I don't have any worries. Also, aren't there ways to legally get out of being drafted? One was for you religion, another was because you went to college or something? I definitely see nothing wrong with the concept of war, but I will be in college.
