Yep, it is true. At the Memphis camp I took batting practice with golf ball size balls to help your perception, just like warming up with a donut on your bat to weigh it down. Once you get in the game, you do see the ball better when practicing with golf ball-like balls.

Kinda similar to what m drum teacher does. He has me do warm-up drills with his "war clubs", then gives me my regular 5A sticks and it feels so easy. 
I was never good at batting though, I still can't even hit the ball if I'm tossing it to myself.

Interesting Base, I never had heard of that. I assume it really would be quite effective
