Yeah... lucky me, I was walking home from school (Last week at some point... monday? tuesday?) And there was a TV on the side of the road with a sign on it reading "Free, no speakers but good picture." Always taking useful stuff even if I won't use it, I brought it home. Tests revealed that it's essentially new, except that it was made in 1990 and the speaker wires have been severed. Still, I've been allowed to put it in my room and hook it up to my dual-input computer speakers.

This brings me to my question. Since I now have something to hook it up to (other than our other TVs, which are usually either in use or in the room of a sleeper), I want to get some kind of console system. I've been thinking of getting a Dreamcast, because it has some good games and everything for it is rather cheap, but I want to hear your opinions. Remember, I have very little money and no job... what should I get?

EDIT: (all prices are lowest used on Amazon)
Dreamcast: $42.00
Controller: $5.15
VMU: $7.60
Sonic Adventure and probably most other games: $5.99
Next, I look for prices on other systems. However, I have to get ready for work now.

get ready for work now?? you said you have no job. oh well. i think playstation 2s are the best, although not on the cheap side. they have LOTS of games, adn if you had/have a playstation 1, you can use the games from that too.

Yeah if you want something cheap, go with the Playstation 1. The Dreamcast SUCKS!!!, and there is a ton of games for the PS1. If you can get a job, I would suggest either the Gamecube or the PS2(I prefer the Gamecube), but absolutely not an Xbox. Death to the Xbox!!! Anyway, the PS2 has a ton of games, and you can play all PS1 games on it as well, but I am a Nintendo follower, and it does have better graphics, so I would suggest getting a Gamecube. Whatever you do though DON'T get a Dreamcast. They really suck.

Lol X Z I hate Sega... And the DC is good? Lol then why did the price drop to $50 (US) from $200 (US) in a little over a year? The only Sega game I ever liked was Pirates! for the Genesis. But yeah Bill Gates is a schmoe. I still think he payed Blizzard to release StarCraft: Ghost to Xbox(hereby to be referred to as the newbbox) only. Btw, I think the new Sonic games blow... Except that I can beat anyone on the race thingy with Amy Rose. "Amy Rose is here!" Heh heh heh heh...

DC itself is good, and has good games which still stand up against GC, PS2, and Xbox... it failed because Sega was spreading itself too thin doing hardware AND software. They're not good at doing both at once.

PSX and N64 are OK, but my friend has one of each with a ton of games... I'm at his house a lot, and he's at mine, so we use those. Besides, while they do have a ton of games, and many are good, most aren't my mug o' tea. Don't know why. Also, GC is quite expensive.

With connections, I can get a DC with 2 controllers and a VMU, plus all the cably thingies, for $25. Or from someone else, I can get the same deal plus a Jump Pack and about 10-15 games (He has to check) for $50. Both cheaper than Amazon.

As for getting a job, most places around here are wary of hiring kids under 16 or even 18 (or aren't legally allowed to)... the few places that could and would hire me are filled.

Never, EVER diss Sega in my presence.

What happened to ya Chris? Without your constant posting, the forums seem empty, lol.

GC is actually cheaper than a PS2and Newbbox...

Name a game for DC that can stand up to GC PS2, or Newbbox. The reason PS games aren't that good is because the developers churn the things out so fast that they can't test it properly. I still think Sega blows, but, because of your current funding situation, go ahead and get the DC. Although if there is more PS1 games that you like, save up a little and get the PS1.

have a friend who is a gaming freak and having no less than 10 gaming systems (gamecube,PS2,XBOX, Dreamcast,N64,Sega Genisis, 2 gameboy colors, 1 gameboy advanced and a gameboy SP)

I think u should get a PS2 because it has the most games i like bluetongue.gif Although the XBOX is a good second with Halo and Star Wars:Knights of the Old Republic and other good games. Me and my friend hate the gamecube due to its lack of good games. Its games are mediocre compared to the other gaming systems. The dreamcast ive never played due to the fast that it broke down when my friend and I plugged it in. It died just like that. sad.gif N64 was ok, had good games and stuff. Its a good buy except that it has bad graphics (compared to the XBOX, PS2 and gamecube.)

Ok first thing: Your friends needs therapey. That addiction needs to be broken.

QUOTE
I think u should get a PS2 because it has the most games i like
2nd: I agree, the PS2 is a fine console, though not as good as a GC.

QUOTE

3rd: Halo and KotOR are about the ONLY good games for Xbox. Most PS2 games suck, because the developers churn those things out like there is no tomorrow(only exception possible being GTA 3). As for GC games... Super Mario Sunshine, only for NGC. Superb graphics(I mean look at those water effects!), though the story was lacking just a wee little bit. Legend of Zelda: Windwaker, only for NGC. Astounding graphics, gameplay and story line. Only weakness was that most people(myself included) wanted a realistic Zelda. Super Smash Brothers Melee!!! The best game EVER!!! Well, maybe not EVER, but one of the best games out there. Games in development: Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life. Sequel to one of the best RPGs of all time. Mario Kart: Double Dash! Sequel to one of the best Racing games of all time. Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles. ANOTHER sequel to one of the best RPGs of all time. 1080: Avalanche! Sequel to the best snowboarding game of all time. And don't EVEN try and pull the "Gamecube games are kiddy" line, because at least NGC doesn't have Mary Kate & Ashley: Sweet 16. What have you got to say for yourself?

Btw... *points at sig* yeah saying NGC sucks could provoke me to violence

Lol three more things...

1: You still need to tell me what good games the Newbbox has besides Halo and KotOR...(which are very good games btw)

2:

*agrees*

I hate how everyone throws a kiddy label on Nintendo games.

Oh, what? Something made you think? You couldn't simply blow their heads off? Oh deary me no! You had to think before midlessly destroying stuff!

Thats what I dislike about most X-Box Players. They are too busy finding out how to kill someone then to figure their way through a dungeon, helping another person.

My little brother is liek that. He refuses to play anything that makes him think (he bought Zelda: The Wind Waker because he saw soul calibur two and thought that was what it was, then he put it in, played for five minutes, and was about to throw it out, but I got to it first. He's eleven and he said it was too hard. He was in the begginning forest! It isn't even a maze! He couldn't figure out how to even find the sword! ) And he wants to buy an X-Box so he can play more shooting games. And he wrote a story as a school assignment titled: "Killer Kill Killinghood" And everyone in the story was brutally slain. He was grounded for a good period of time after that.. his IQ is like 90. I'm forcing him to play animal crossing, which he is adapting to it, and it's good because it's nature. I just pray to Nerzuul the doesn't find out abotu the pitfalls...
