It sucks. I had a full page worth of material, but it didn't fully make sense. So here it goes again.
First let me clear this up for you.
You can never "Cease to exist". Your body will merely change forms. However the matter it's comprised of will always remain. You can never destroy matter. Just change its properties. Like a log on fire. After it burns it just changes to ash and gas. The matter that formed it just changed. You want alchemy? You got it in fire.
And if you're braindead, you're still alive. As long as the heart beats, the body is alive. Think Terry Schiavo. She was braindead for 12 years, but kept alive on Life Support (The 'Aid' he was talking about. Not "HIV AIDS".)
Given of course that once Life Support was removed she died. Because she couldn't sustain life herself, so people relied on machines to do it for her. She was still alive. But "Persistant Vegitative State". (PVS)
Again, you're right and wrong. True, you can't do anything, but you still exist. You're still alive. Until the heart stops pumping blood through the body, you're alive.

When you are brain dead, you're dead mentally. You have no thoughts, feelings, or involuntary thinking. Your body is still alive, so you are alive physically. Your body will stay alive until nutrients are cut off. Fairly basic.
*Ahem* I think you probably feel a moment of pain (how long it lasts depends on the way you're dying), then it gets numb, and finally everything goes black. I really doubt a guy being shot in the head actually goes through the life flashbacks, unless he was already thinking that.

Sooo, according to ziggy, Schaivo was dead?
Her brain still was proccessing ideas, but sleep is just a time for your brain to organize the recent day's events. Shaivo ran out of stuff to organize, I'm sure. Does this mean she died before the pulled the LS, yet after she went into the state? Sounds iffy.

She was? I thought she was completely brain dead... But if she's in a sleep-like state, she's not brain dead... So much for the news... Damn liars. (Reporters were claiming scans showed her brain melted and slightly rotting.)

The thing is, if your brain melts down, you're dead. If it's rotting, so's your flesh, cause your brain isn't exposed to decomposers normally.
