Becoming a moderator isn't climbing the mountain and achieving something great. It's simply a position for the sole reason of maintaining the boards and guiding new members. Cspace obviously can't do it alone, along with any other boards that have over 100 people. Being a moderator isn't a privelege or reward, it's simply a required position that is given to those who can be trusted to maintain the forums well, don't break rules so that they set an example, and are capable of efficiently helping members with questions/problems.
The reason members are rarely made into moderators here recently is due to the fact we have a huge moderating team already (click on 'the moderating team' link at the bottom of the forums). More just aren't needed, so members shouldn't set their goal/purpose on these forums as becoming a moderator. That shouldn't be your goal even if we were in need of moderators. Just enjoy yourself and take part in anything you're interested in that there is to do at the given time, you aren't restricted from doing anything just because you're not a moderator.

I never said anything about the goal is to become a moderator, I said on how u have to earn the trust of respect from one another...just making a point because I think you understood me wrong. This doesn't have anything to do with just being a mod it also can teach people lessons in everyday life that we sometimes can't get what we always want so it's to earn your wayso you can build that respect from one person to the other.

I wasn't directly replying to you, just threw your metaphor in there.

Err, seriously, you guys probably don't even want to be mods if you actually knew what it was like. Sure, we can say 'W3 B3 M0DS! PH34R US!' (and we do, don't worry
), and you can move topics, close topics, open topics, and all that moddish stuff, but is that really that special...? No, not really
Besides, you get responsibilites (:O!)! A part of a quote from a book (or a version of the quote, can't ever remember the whole thing! >.>) "Duty is heavier than a mountain". (Yes, I'm aware that isn't the whole quote, but the other part is... Uhh.. Unnecessary.) The more duty, the more responsibility, and the more pressure you get. For instance, I've been yelled at loads of times by normal members, and sometimes other mods. For example, say you are a... Uhh.. Mod, and you spam a bit. Then some members may come up and post saying, "*insert your name here*, your a mod! Next time you should know not to spam." And you will probably get hundreds of pm complaints telling you to stop spamming.
Now, lets say you spam a bit and you are a smod. Then people will say, "*insert your name here*, you're a smod! You should really know better than this!" And you'll receive thousands of complaint pms.
One of the reasons that sometimes members don't become mods for several years, if ever, is because with that experience you know better how a mod should act since you've seen them before, you know most of the rules really well, and you just have a general feel for the site, whereas if you have been around for a week, a month, maybe even half a year, you aren't going to have as much experience, and you might not know all of those 'unspoken rules', like no double posting for example.

My main purpose for this thread anyway was to discover if normal members are capable of becoming mods. I didn't really have a "goal" to become one, but it seemed kind of interesting in a way...
Anyways, I got my answer since people say that it rarely happens; which technically means that it is "possible." I hope other mods weren't offended with me putting up the possibility that I could be equal in their status by just doing something to earn the rank...
With Darkness' passage about pressure and responsibility, I'm not really TOO interested anymore.

You're already equal in status to anyone on the boards, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. Being a mod isn't about being 'better' or higher than anyone else, it's just a set of responsibilities to maintain the boards. It's up to the mod team to make sure that the boards are fine for the members to post in, that's who they're mostly run for. So it could even be argued that the regular members are more important, I guess.
