All my questions didn't go for nothing, hehe, just bought Guild Wars today. biglaugh.gif I'm not playing it immediately, I'm working on a paper for my history class right now, but I will be on later tonight, so it would be awesome to hook up with some SeeDs as I start out. My name will be "Jaiden Lightstream", but I'm still debating on what professions I'll be picking (I can't decide between Ranger or Warrior for the base one bluetongue.gif). Recommendations here would be cool before I start, maybe tell me your names if you'll be on tonight so I know who to look out for. bigcheek.gif

I bought it for $50 at WalMart. Pretty pricy, but I'm too lazy to wait longer to search elsewhere. bluetongue.gif

Wow! Awesome to hear that Draggy! biglaugh.gif

Well everyone knows I recommend Mesmer to start off however the trick to being a Mesmer is to actually know what kind of monsters you'll be up against and that makes the Mesmer a moderately difficult (not really but hey, everyone else says it) profession to start off with.

If you were to be a Warrior, ideally you'd want to be something like a Warrior/Monk (if you do, I'll maul you) to fight and yourself however I'd also recommend the Warrior/Necromancer. Then again, Warrior/Ranger is also a nice class combination.

For Ranger, Ranger/Warrior is a good choice. I haven't experimented much with Rangers so I'm not too crash hot with them.

Really you can choose whatever class combination you like the most as each class combination isn't too bad since they all have their pros and cons. grnwink.gif

^^ Thanks Ayumi, you rock!! ^^

How many five-year-olds could you take in a fight?
Red Carnation, Hibiscus. Spiderflower. White Violet... Peony?

I dunno why I'm not interested in Mesmer much, I doubt I'll ever be one. icon_sweatdrop.gif I might just go ahead with the Ra/W since that what I had originally thought about. If I decide I really want the otehr combo with W/Ra then I suppose I start it over quick.

Another question though, can I wield warrior weapons? Like a sword? I know that there are armour restrictions for the professions, but are the weapons just based on the attributes you have (so that if I put points into one of my secondary profession's attributes, I'll be able to wield a sword with a ranger)?

Any profession can wield any weapon. It's just that the damage won't be strong if you don't meet the requirements on the sword (if it has requirements).

However if you are a Ranger/Warrior, along with a bow you can wield a sword and you can do max damage on the weapon if you boost Swordsmanship or Marksmanship.

It's actually a good thing that any class can wield any weapon. biglaugh.gif

Like for instance, if you were a Ranger/Warrior, you might have something like this:

Marksmanship: 9
Swordsmanship: 8

And then you wanted to wield these two weapons:

Longbow 15-28 dmg - Req 9 Marksmanship
Long Sword 15-22 dmg - Req 9 Swordsmanship

You would be able to do maximum damage with the bow however you'd do hardly any damage with the sword. However if the Req was 8, then you'd do max damage with the sword.

All righty then. bigglasses.gif I saw some item requirements somewhere when I was going through GW sites, but I understand it now, thanks Tan. I'd like to go for the Ranger look, but I've always had a liking for swords. bluetongue.gif

Also says it in the guild wars FAQ I linked to you earlier Dragonman,

QUOTE
Will my core profession characters be able to equip Assassin or Ritualist items?

A Guild Wars character is able to equip any non-customized item. However, because the character lacks the associated Attribute, the character's use of such items will not be particularly adept.

So as Tan said, you need the attribute from the Warrior class to effectively use swords an' that.

Play as a Necromancer and put all your stats into death magic. You will own for the first half of the game, then things will suck for a while (crystal desert...), then you will be back on top. NECROS RULE!!

I've gone with Ranger/Warrior on Jaiden Lightstream, and I hung out with Tanny for a while who helped a lot in my 'total confusement period'. bluetongue.gif Here's a screenie after he helped me get a pet (guess what it resembles):
