Arr, I spent forever in the Catacombs, I didn't get one notice/mention/sighting of a Moe Bird (for the quest). I think I'll need help for that one next time I'm online. bluetongue.gif I'm just gonna switch over to this horn one, I gotta find a healing spring in Regent Valley. eek7.gif The melandru statue place looked liked a healing spring, but nothing happened.

And I just looked at a skill list...holy dang, I'm missing a lot. eek7.gif So can you get every single skill there is available? I'm guessing so, and yes I know you can only equip 8. yes.gif

Anyways, anyone is welcome to "pre-sear" with me. biglaugh.gif By the way, at the beginning, there was some clip, but computer was lagging ferociously, so it was 80% freezy through the clip, I didn't see what happened...Was in anything good? Did I miss storyline? icon_sweatdrop.gif

Arrr....I ended up finding out on my own (haven't checked back here) that those markers are for every quest. >_< I thought they only marked whee to go for primary.. Ah well, I got a bunch of them done today, I only have like 2-3 more.

Ohhh when I said skill point, I didn't mean that you get every single skill. icon_sweatdrop.gif

I think the quest is something like Tithe for Ashford Abbey, you get an extra skill point if you complete that quest. bluetongue.gif

^^ Thanks Ayumi, you rock!! ^^

How many five-year-olds could you take in a fight?

There are three ways to gain skills, one of which you're already familiar with.

You can get them through skill quests, those are quests that give skills as a reward, or to help you complete them. It's best to unlock skills this way when possible since it doesn't really cost you anything. bluetongue.gif

The second way is from Skill Traders, who you'll find in some towns after finishing pre-searing. You can trade in a certain amount of gold and a Skill Point for a skill, different shops sell different skills. The amount of gold that a skill costs starts up low, but each time you buy one it gets a bit higher until eventually they cost 1000 gold each. Oh, and 'skill points' are things you get when you level up, and for completing missions and stuff. Basically you need them when you want to buy skills, but I've never found them to be that big a deal.

The third way is actually an extension of the second. Partway through the game you'll come across a set of quests for this guy who is inventing a 'Capture Signet', a signet skill you can take with you to steal skills from enemies permanently. You can only steal skills from bosses, and each time you do it that capture signet disappears. This is the only way to get some of the best skills in the game (the Elite skills), but the price for capture signets goes up the same way as for other skills.

But yeah, you can get all skills for your class combination, with a bit of work. I haven't got around to doing it, especially with Factions being released with a bunch of new skills, but it's certainly quite possible.

Mmm, I doubt I'll be able to decide easy, I'm picky. bluetongue.gif So say I got every skill point I could possibly get, about how many skills would be left over that I couldn't get? bluetongue.gif

Oh yeah, and about the pets... Have anything in particular in mind that you'd want? Once you leave pre-searing the only pre-searing pet readily available for taming is a melandru's stalker. As for the others, striders will never be available again, boars won't be available for a while, and I forgot if there were any others in pre-searing...

But regardless, know that all pets are basically the same. They do different types of damage (blunt, piercing, slashing...), but all will average out to about the same effectiveness. This also includes the spider you can get in the underworld I believe, contrary to what many say. So just pick one of which you like the appearance.

As for striders, and why they aren't available later, there will be another bird (a moa bird) available readily once you leave pre-searing. However, it does a different type of damage. I think striders do piercing, and moa birds do slashing, which would make sense because if striders did piercing then you have a choice of any damage type pre-searing. So if you want a bird that does piercing damage, and won't be available again once you leave, pick up a strider. grnwink.gif

:/ It's been proven that the only pets with piercing are Dune Lizards and UW Spiders, since piercing is ranged attacks.

All the others do the usual damage (slashing, I think, even warthogs)

Oh! While we're on the subject of pets, Cspace.. I need to have a look at Butch ingame to prove something, sometime.

Arr, I wanted to try out wolves/bears. sad.gif

A question about pets: Say I've got a level 7 melandru stalker, but I wanted to try out a moa bird. If I got rid of the stalker and got the moa bird, would it be at the same level as my stalker, or would it start at level 1 (or whatever level it is when I charm it)? And if I want a melandru stalker again, will it be at level 1 again?

Yeah, they start at the level at which they're captured. And once you sell your pet, you wont get it back, you'll have to get a new one, that's why they say you won't get it back.

Mel's Stalker lvl ?: Ascalon
Moa Bird lvl ?: Ascalon
(snow) Wolf lvl 5: Northen Shiverpeaks (Elder Wolf lvl 15: Southern SP.. certain map..)
Lynx lvl 5: Kryta

And striders. bluetongue.gif

Almost positive about it unless they changed it. Also, aren't hogs blunt? Almost positive about that too.

They have all three available pre-searing: Piercing, slashing, and blunt. Moa birds are slashing which is why the pre-searing birds are a different creature, to fill in the piercing gap so pets native to the late regions aren't available at the beginning.

***************************************************

Decided to Google it, here ya go: http://www.guildwars...uide-id1503.php

According to GWGuru, hogs are blunt, striders are piercing, and stalkers are slashing.

Also backed up here in the second post (that thread is pinned on GWOnline): http://forums.gwonli...ad.php?t=346270

Some people you ask will just assume that striders and moa birds are the same, and therefore think that both are slashing, but striders are indeed different. grnwink.gif

It's also neat how you can tame wolves in pre-searing. biglaugh.gif

Never tried a bear...

And pity about not being able to tame that rabbit. sad.gif

Basically just choose a pet you like the look of and then tame it. That's what I do. bluetongue.gif
