"Do you have any Wii in stock?" asked the customer. "Or course we do," exclaimed the clerk, "Urine GameStop!"

Overwhelmed as one would be, placed in my position.
Such a heavy burden now to be "The One".
Born to bear and read to all the details of our ending
To write it down for all the world to see.

OK, the wacky controller I could live with. Completely different from the norm, but it looks like it'll be... you know, functional and stuff. (Too lazy to talk about it.)
Wii... well, "Revolution" just sounds cooler, and seems appropriate given Nintendo's plans (the aforementioned wacky controllers, wireless everything including charging, small size, free online gaming, free classic games to download...). But "Wii"? That's just wiird.
Reading their reasons for it (the "i"s look like people coming together to play games, sounds like "we," etc), it doesn't seem so bad. But my guess is that unless they force that explanation down Joe Sixpack's throat (print it all over the ads and the box or whatever), he's just going to blink, go "WTF," and buy an Xbox 360. (Probably the "core" version.)

Revolution was a hell of a lot better, but I bet Wii means more...
GI: It’s been rumored that the new big Revolution secret is the fact that the nun chuck controller is also motion detecting…
Atwood: Really. That’s interesting. I would say 9:30 in the morning on Tuesday of E3 will be filled with surprises and I would just show up. Because there’s been a ton of speculation. Some of it’s right. Some of it’s not. We’d say that if that’s the only secret you’re expecting you’re going to be very surprised.

Why would japaneese people call it wii and use that explanation? What do they tell the other countrys (including japan)?
"oh sorry guys, wii used some crappy excuse on the americans... were leaving you out of it, since We means NOHING to you guys and i doubt Wii is even in your alphabet."

QUOTE(Tim Buckley @ Ctrl+Alt+Del)
Well the internet exploded yesterday on account of the Wii announcement. I don't think anyone expected them to announce the name before E3, but their reason for doing so makes sense. Now we get all of the stupid puns and griping out of the way now, so E3's focus will be on the actual games and system.
I had people sending me links to an online petition to get the name changed back to Revolution. Gimme a break. First of all, if you think any actual corporation takes an online petition seriously, I've got a bridge to sell you. Second, it's just a name. Get over it. It sounds silly? Yeah, well what the {expletive ninja'd by Cspace} is a "google"? That's what I thought.
(Update: So you can stop emailing me, a "googol" is the term for the very large number. A google is nothing. They are not the same thing.)
Like the name or not, every single tech related webpage, blog, or forum was talking about the Wii yesterday. You can't buy that kind of media exposure. And Nintendo got it for free yesterday. The little poem they wrote explaining the meaning of Wii might have been a bit cheesy, but A++ in Business 101 for Nintendo.
Personally the name has grown on me. Visually I like it. I haven't actually had to say "Nintendo Wii" out loud in conversation yet, so we'll see how that goes. But when it comes down to it, what the hell do I care what they name their system? I just want to play the video games.

Nintendo is the master at screwing itself over. First they killed Zelda's coolness with the cell shade, then the crummy gimmick controller, now they give the system a name worthy of a retarded alien. I got a $600 PS3 that says this will be the last Nintendo consol. Nintendo makes some good games, but that's their problem. They only make 'some' good games. On my gamecube, I only played two or three really good games. My PS2 got sooooo much more use. I would absolutely love for Nintendo to die and become a software-only company. That way they can't screw up the hardware.
PS3 ftw.

PS3 ftw.
