About Advertising

This is just to clear a few questions up, and due to a few recent situations that I won't specifically mention...
Advertising should only be done through signatures or the Cafeteria. If in a signature, the ad must be respectful in terms of formatting and content (no hyper flashing banners, nothing breaking general signature rules, etc.). If in the Cafeteria, it should not be spammed around the forum. Advertisements must go along with our general rules (nothing illegal or obscene), and should not be clan recruitment threads unless for a faction of SeeD (which can be posted anywhere).
Unless you are an affiliate, these are the only places you can openly advertise.
Also, you cannot spam-PM advertisements.
The administration holds the right to remove advertisements at will if deemed necessary for any reason, even if in the correct location. While we haven't removed advertisements that went by these guidelines in the past, we hold this right for the potential of affiliate and otherwise promotional programs in the future.

Sounds like you don't want any of the mods to clean up bad advertisements. Is that so?
Ads that go against the rules or are placed in the wrong places should indeed be handled. Also, if someone obsessively posts some sort of promotion that becomes an issue, mods can handle that.
When I say...

I mean that if necessary, I can remove any kind of ad if thought to be necessary, even if it is not conflicting with these guidelines. I've never removed ads that went along with our general rules in the past (that I can remember at least), but I say this to cover myself for the case in which it's necessary from our standpoint (such as for affiliates, if hurting factions, etc.).
This isn't a place to come with the purpose of advertising on our forums, but we still provide the opportunity within realistic bounds.

The rules on what advertising is allowed have always been a little unsure, leading to things being handled by whoever happened to see it, and some rather inconsistent double standards.
I'm guessing he posted this to clear things up a little bit, and I certainly appreciate it.

Definitely did a good job of clearing up. GD bad. CZ good.
(And, yes, I know it's the Cafeteria, but old habits die hard.
) I can definitely understand, but... What if someone post a legit advertisement, yet it's in the wrong forum? That is, one that's faction-unrelated and doesn't go against the rules. Should I just assume that it gets moved to The Cafeteria, with an explanation?

For now, yes, unless it is posted over and over.
