Just make sure that when you go to the gym, you ALWAYS do a proper warm up, cooldown, and always, always, always do plenty of stretches, both before and after all workouts.

Wait, wait. I seem to recall something about carbs and diets from Health this year. Oh yes! It seems you mustn't totally cut out carbs. They're good for you and your body needs them, or something like that. If you need to, reduce the amount you get daily, but don't completely cancel them out from your diet. I guess.
That would be correct. And it isn't just carbs either, it's everything. Good and bad fats, sugar, salt, everything. And for those of you who take supplements: Taking them does not mean your diet can be less healthy.

And to the ladies: most, if not all, contraceptive pills (the kind you have to take every day) reduce particular levels of certain vitamins and/or minerals your body needs, so if you are on the pill, have a chat with your GP and find out what you have to do to ensure that you don't run too low on vitamins/minerals the pill sucks away at.

Something else that hasnt been mentioned, Just eat your 3 square meals a day at the right time. Breakfast at breakfast, Lunch at lunch and Dinner at dinner (Or supper. whatever you want to call it, same meal!). Keeps your metabolism going. And if you just Walk everywhere you can rather than drive or get a lift, then, all the better.

What happens if I don't stretch? Also should I take supplements?

If you don't stretch, your muscles will not warm up properly, and will be extremely sore after your workout (though it may take as much as 2 after for you to feel it). And if you don't need them, then no, you should take supplements. They should, really, only be taken if you are deficient in them. For instance, people who are anemic usually take iron supplements. Too much of something you need can be just as bad as not having enough.

Also, without warming up, you can risk massive injury. The only other time you should take suppliments is if you're bodybuilding and you dont have enough of something in you to keep up [Which i guess means you're deficient in them]. However, at your age, should stay away from that for a little while.

And as an emphasis about the suppliments thing, I know of a guy who took iron suppliments, because he didn't have enough in his system so he felt all groggy and drained. But he took too much, so, he STILL felt groggy and drained as a result of having too much. So he took more iron. Still felt groggy and drained. So he took more iron. Over a year later, he got taken into hospital, took him about 4 weeks to recover i think. Just poisoned his own system.

Yup, Not good >.<

I've had some injuries that i've gotten in the past that were caused by not warming up properly... >.< But on some occasions, it was due to some other little factor as well >.<

Its very important, and i've had to learn the hard way.

Well, i'm fairly skinny, I suppose. I don't need to loose weight. Although, I would just like to get some more exercise. I need an indoor gym or something. Most of the year in Seattle it's too cold and rainy to do much outside. sad.gif

Funny thing about me is that, judging by my eating and exercise habits, I should be morbidly obese, but I'm not. I'm the skinniest person I know. Werd, huh?

No, not really weird at all. That means you would have a very fast metabolism. And also, just because you're thin does not automatically mean that you are healthy. I found that out the hard way. I was very thin (borderline underweight - I had to go on a backwards diet to make me gain weight), but because I didn't eat healthily or exercise, my pancreas stopped working properly. And only after I changed my eating and exercise habits did it start working properly again. This was a few years back, and nowadays it works just fine. I really wouldn't care to find out what would have happened had I not changed my habits.

Don't let that scare you, but do make an effort to eat healthily and exercise.

Heh, OUCH, nicely cought there Darkdream. . . I'll leave it at that, since you dont want to know.

But good advice. Personally trying to get fit enough to be able to run a half-marathon nonstop, and at a good pace, And to get as strong as i can without sacrificing cardio. Boy how hard it is to eat right, how hard it is indeed. . .

I never said I was perfectly healthy.

I've been seeing a nutritionist, and I'm working on my diet and exercise.
