lol that is strange, i'm using service pack 2 and thats probably why you're not seeing what i am. Search around the internet options and see if you can find it there. I looked in mine and found it under the "advanced" tab.

You said you saw "internet options" in the control panel... go there and look around. You should see a button or link in there somewhere saying "windows firewall" or "windows firewall settings"

Advice on not getting hacked...

I am a professional programmer/webdeveloper/software developer and let me tell you about this as one who has known hackers but myself never having been one. Although if I wanted to be a hacker I could.

I understood the reality of hacking years ago that hackers are not the rebel heroes of society but those who are vandals who steal time, money and resources from others. Personally, I have never hacked anyone.

Hacking is an unethical practice. Those who hack begin their careers at an early age to learn to become white collar criminals behind bars later in life. That sound like fun to you?

* * *

The number one way a Runescape player is hacked is obviously by giving out his password to someone. You might just say, "Well, duh" but read on. The most common hack is by a close friend of a player whom they password shared with. This leak of security can result in the password being passed on to God knows who else.

You think you can really trust your friend? So did a lot of players. They had their password changed by their friend and then had to do password recovery. IF they had set their questions properly they might get their password back. Then their friend recovers the character back to them starting a character ownership dispute.

This can only be resolved by Jagex by proof of ownership of the character by their own numbers supplied to the player by e-mail response after paying as a member. If they are not a member, forget it. Jagex is unable to know who is who and effectively you are locked out of your character as bad as if you were banned.

* * *

The second most common way for a password to be hacked is someone knowing you personally and figuring out your password or to find where they hide their password written down. If you have all info written down in one place, you have lost it all if you are a non-member. If they steal your e-mail account then they can gain as much control of your character as you have but this would be truly illegal as this deals with a credit card account. Call your credit card company if that happens.

* * *

The third most common way for a password to be hacked is to give out your OLD PASSWORD. The hacker will say, "What are you worried about? It is only your old password." Which once they get, they will do attempt a password recovery to gain control of your character. Then again, the same old mess I described before is true.

* * *

The fourth most common way to lose your account is to play on a public computer or somewhere where someone can see you type your password, whether by the naked eye or by binoculars. (So you think this really doesn't happen? Don't be a fool.)

* * *

The fifth most common way to lose your account is if you use some computer to login to Runescape that has keystroke recorder software installed.

* * *

In conclusion, truly guard yourself from hackers, you need to be familiar with the methods they use. Most players aren't so they don't take Jagex's warnings seriously. If players did take Jagex's warnings seriously and follow their instructions they would have a much greater chance of ever getting their character hacked.

Remember friends, not to ever give out your password and to watch your backs. I have no pity on those who say, "I got hacked! My friend stole my password.". I have replied to such with ridicule and lectures about their foolishness. United Freedom Fighters follow Jagex's rules.
