3rd Party Riots!

Translation from Jagexese:
"Apparently you're too bloody stupid to keep your account protected, so if we catch you doing something that might potentially be risky, we're just going to ban you."
I've never got any spyware or keyloggers from swifswitch and to protect your account you have a firewall and to get rid of spyware you run ad-aware everyday.
Jagex can't possibly in anyway notice if you're using a 3rd party program because swiftswitch is just basicly internet explorer with the worlds on the side and you can add the different worlds as favourites on IE too so; in other words swiftswitch is an internet browser with the worlds as favourites.

I've never got any spyware or keyloggers from swifswitch... [word salad]
Can you speak for those who thought they were dling swiftswitch and instead got a keylogger or spyware packaged in it?
I dunno about that... telling people that the only official client is on the official website is a pretty good, "Don't say we didn't warn you."

This page is intended to give advice to authors of third party clients. Players should still be aware that we do not endorse or recommend the use of such software.
This page does not describe a new rule. This does not add anything not already implied by our fifteen main rules, so unless you are trying to write a third party client that can be used within our rules, or trying to determine if a particular client is allowed for use, you probably do not need to read it.
Nor does this aim to prohibit what you can or cannot create. Rather, it gives you advice on how to make software which is not prohibited for use by our players under Rule 7. This may be of interest if you wish to a) not endanger other peoples' accounts, b) ensure the maximum possible audience for your program, as many users will be put off using your software if to do so they have to break a rule themselves and risk being banned.
Some things to bear in mind:
* When viewing a free world on a computer display with a resolution higher than 800 x 600, the game pane should default to at least 710 pixels high, and must not be able to scroll vertically. I.e. the game pane must be displayed in such a way that both the game and advert are fully visible at the same time (otherwise it encourages users to break Rule 11).
(f2p must have adverts)
* The program should not allow worlds marked as 'FULL' on the world select page to be selected (otherwise it encourages users to break Rule 7 - unfair advantage).
(cannot have easy worldswitcher)
* If the program has its own integrated chat feature separate from the RuneScape chat, it should make it very clear to users that this chat is not part of RuneScape and is not official, endorsed or moderated by Jagex in any way. Furthermore, this chat should still be moderated (just not by us), and the moderators should not allow chat which infringes our rules of conduct. All the rules are important, but in particular if Rule 3 or Rule 9 are regularly breached on the external chat, the program will be considered to endanger users or encourage rule breaking. To avoid confusion with the official RuneScape chat, moderators of the external chat should not be indicated with a silver or gold crown. If the chat is IRC based, then the program should only allow access to IRC channels which conform with the above.
(RS Themed Chatrooms should follow RS style rules -- Mod Crown images for channel ops/halfops are not allowed.)
* The program should not contain adverts or links to websites which encourage rule breaking or endanger users.
(no more google ads, need controlled ads)
We may update this list from time to time to keep it current, hence this is not intended to be an exhaustive list, simply some things to think about. In general, for the program to be allowed for users to use under Rule 7, it must not do anything which encourages rules breaking or endangers users.
Apparently Strider and Jagex have reached this agreement and I have no doubt a new version of SS will be made in the next month or so.

Did the riots help?

But moving on, Jagex cant really get more plain than this, one of the reasons why I dont play anymore, idiot proofing and dumbing down something that is pretty much simple. I'll stick to FPS and RTS games for now. If Jagex gets more strict so that you cant actually use 3rd party programs, I say go stick it where the sun don't shine.

Because in all reality, that's what they should be doing, and should HAVE been doing since the game came out. But for some odd reason, in the past few years, they've become much more lenient towards major rulebreakers, while being downright ruthless to minor mishaps. Banning a character for a slipup on the chat, while APPEALING a ban on someone who has substantial evidence against them for selling accounts or whatnot.
They had the chance to weed the community last night. Their further revisions only let the players win.
Wtg Jagex. We can tell what really runs your business.

He told me Jagex won't stick with it.
I said they'll alter it, after realizing people will go so far as to RIOT.
I mean wow. See, people didn't have to do what they did and be kids about it. Only those who whined about it like that are the people who pissed me off the most. There was a forum debate about it (840 pages last I checked) and that seemed like a much more reasonable way to handle the problems.
Not storm the world "DOWN WITH RS NO SS NO RS DOWN WITH MOD MARVIN @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@"
Srsly.
People like Ech, those were good.

But they will keep to this change (the latest update)
They said with some modifications they will allow the 3rd party clients and gave a guide on making succesful ones, Strider got sent to him a list of what needs changed, so he plans on having it done by the weekend, hopefully all goes well.
Think though the guy who messaged jagex asking what theyre meant to run runescape with seeing as mozilla, IE, Opera etc are 3rd party too really got them stumped :$
