IMO being a vegetarian is the dumbest thing to do and then the parents feed their small kids that are growing with just vegetables and then they wont grow and they get short, weak and dumb.

Uhh, meat isn't the only source of the stuff you need to not be "short, weak, and dumb" o.O

And what about the parents who only feed their kids meat, and no fruits or vegetables, eh?

I ate more or less meat every day, exept for pancakes and such, and ate like one or two apple a month.
I turned out all right, eh?

(I love meat, and hate salads though)

I'm an omnivore. I've never viewed killing livestock for food as wrong. I'm not opposed to hunting, either (Poaching is a different matter). Of course, I don't believe in killing protected species, non-game animals, or pets. I see meat as a vital part of my diet, so it won't be going away any time soon.

Same here. I have NO problem with eating meet, in fact, if I want to eat veal I will. I know what they do to veals, in fact I've seen the movies and been to a slaughter house, but to me the food is good. To survive sometimes you have to kill your food, because quite frankly you cannot survive just on vegetables -- you also cannot survive just on meat. The problem with eating just one and not the other, is you can gain different diseases and other such things (E Coli, anyone?).

Now meat can cause you to get sick if it is not prepared correctly as well, so I find a well balanced diet works wonders for me, of course it all depends on what the person likes and dislikes. I'm not saying you need to eat everything, but once in awhile eating meat does help you, and the same can be said about fruits and vegetables. It's all about balance, of the body, the mind and, and of the sole. ^_^;

*cough*

Parents can be, are, and will be stupid. Kids can quite frankly eat what they want. Ever heard of a friends house? My mother doesn't like raw onions, but I do, and I eat them. Just because a parent doesn't like something doesn't mean a kid does not, will not, or could not, like something a parent doesn't.

Another example is that my mother loves baked potatoes, and quite frankly I can take or leave them, now I love mashed and Au Greaten(SP?), but as for baked..eh..no thank you. I love some things my mother does, for example steak, pork, salads, apples (green ..not red..screama.gif), celery, etc.

And then there are some things I like that she doesn't particularly enjoy, for example - chicken, peas, green beans, etc. She enjoys peaches, I can take them or leave them. See what I am saying? Just because a child likes something doesn't mean a parent will or even has to, and vice versa, a child does not need to eat (or even like) what their parents like. I personally believe that everyone should try something, at least once, and if they never want to eat it again then fine. But at least they can say they tried it, and if someone doesn't want to eat meat? Their life. Not everyone likes the same thing others do. =)

Jeff.

PS: I have no NO problem with hunting, as long as the meat is used to feed yourself and/or others, AND the fur is used to clothe yourself or others. Hunting to simply hunt is wrong, at least to me, but that doesn't mean you cannot sell the fur/meat as long as the meat and fur is used. Hunting to simply hunt and just get the head, or whatever, as a trophy is wrong to me and that will never change. ShiftyEyes_anim.gif

Actually, you CAN get all necessary nutrients from vegetables, fruits, and grains. It's just a lot more complicated to get your amino acids (wheat bread, red rice, peanuts, and asparagus, instead of a steak*)

I'm not a vegetarian.. meat is just a part of what I eat. We've been doing it for thousands of years, it's a means for survival. Maybe not nowadays, but what makes it any more wrong than it was back then? I'm not opposed to vegetarians though, I can understand their personal feelings towards the matter. I'm just not very easily traumatized. bluetongue.gif

I just abhor pork/bacon/pig of any kind. Never have liked it, and I swear I never will.

I try not to gorge myself, but I eat rather hefty quantities. Beef mostly. Poultry followed closely after.

It comes down to personal opinion/beliefs, and nobody has the right to say anything otherwise against someone. I however, choose to keep eating meat. As I consume my food, I take in every other type of food that's available to me.

All things in moderation.

Correct, except that you missed the major player...beans. I think the theory that vegetarianism is unhealthy is because people have no idea what foods contain nutrients found mainly in meats (hence beans). It has been scientifically proven that vegetarianism is actually healthier (less chance of heart problems, diabetes, better weight control, more energy, easier to get up in the morning...) but only if said vegetarians eat correctly. For instance, I no longer require supplements that I used to have to take to try to reduce the occurence of chronic headaches, and that can be solely attributed to my meat-free diet. The diet did what the supplements could not, and the frequency of my chronic headaches has been reduced to almost nil, as opposed to once every week or two (several times a week in a bad week).

No offense, but that has to be one of the silliest things I've ever heard. As I explained before, vegetarianism is actually the healthier option, provided you know how to eat right. This also applies to children. Children can be vegetarians and still be healthy. Children can even be vegans (if being vegetarian is 'the' dumbest, then what does that makes vegans? bluetongue.gif) and still be healthy. Like I said, it's a matter of knowing what to eat and how much of it.

In lieu with what Res said, none of us have any right to speak against what anyone else chooses to eat or not to eat because it is a matter of personal choice. You've seen my reasons for being a vegetarian (make no mistake, my objection to slaughter is ultimately what prompted my choice, not the health benefits...those are just a nice bonus), and other people's reasons for not. Read them all, and decide for yourself what you want to do.

My mother is a vegetarian, but I'm not. I can't stand the thought of not having meat. That being said, I don't mind others being vegetarians. After all, your quorn tastes gorgeous.
