Alpha's Oni Farming Build:

Intro:

This is an Elementalists guide to farming the Oni demons in Maishang Hills. These are difficult to farm, but I have found a way for an E/Me to successfully solo them. Oni are good for farming, as they drop rare crafting materials (Monstrous Claws and Fangs are around 1k each), armor with runes, and rare weapons, and other useful drops.

Equipment:

You'll need a superior earth rune, an earth magic headpiece, and a rune of minor energy storage. Runes of attunement are nice, too. For a weapon, I recommend Galigord's Stone Staff, but any weapon with a 20% enchantment mod will do. Additional energy and fast cast and recharge of earth magic are extremely helpful as well. Finally, geomancer armor will reduce damage down even more here.

Attributes:

Earth Magic: 16
Energy Storage: 7

Inspiration Magic: 11

Skills:

1. Stone Daggers
2. Shockwave (E)
3. Sliver Armor
4. Kinetic Armor
5. Stoneflesh Aura
6. Stone Striker

7. Mantra of Earth

8. Aura of Restoration

Stone Daggers
E: 5
T: 1
R: -
Send out two Stone Daggers. Each Stone Dagger strikes target foe for 35 earth damage if it hits.

Use this to do steady damage at little cost. It also helps keep up kinetic armor.

Shockwave (E)
E: 10
T: 3/4
R: 20
Adjacent foes take 63 earth damage, nearby foes take 63 earth damage, and foes in the area take 63 earth damage.

Use shockwave for massive damage! They actually only do 35 damage per hit (105 overall). While this is 1 damage less than Crystal Wave/Teinai's Crystals, Shockwave costs less. The cast time and recharge are the same, so Shockwave wins here. If you don't have this elite yet, the Crystal skills work just as good.

Sliver Armor
E: 10
T: 1
R: 30
For 11 seconds, you have 52% chance to block attacks and whenever you are the target of a hostile Spell or attack, one nearby foe is struck for 37 earth damage.

This skills is useful on so many levels. The 52% block chance helps stop Oni from using combos, and it also dishes out massive damage to one of the attackers. In combination with Shockwave, this can deplete the health of an Oni very quickly.

Kinetic Armor
E: 15
T: 3
R: 60
For 8 seconds, you gain 84 armor. Whenever you cast a spell, Kinetic Armor is renewed for 8 seconds.

You'll be spamming skills endlessly with this build, so Kinetic Armor is the obvious choice in damage mitigation. Eight seconds is a long time, and it's not hard to slip in a stone daggers cast in this time span.

Stoneflesh Aura
E: 10
T: 2
R: 15
For 21 seconds, damage you receive is reduced by 33 and you are immune to critical attacks.

Stoneflesh Aura is key to this build. It denies the Oni critical hits and greatly reduces the damage you receive. Unfortunately, if this gets interrupted, you're in for a world of hurt. Be careful when recasting this. You have a 6 second window (10 with an enchant mod) to decide when to cast this, so don't feel pressured to cast it prematurely.

Stone Striker
E: 5
T: 1/4
R: 20
For 32 seconds, whenever you take or deal elemental or physical damage, that damage is converted to earth damage.

This should turn all the incoming damage into earth damage. This helps a lot when used with the next skill, and if you have geomancers armor on. This enchant lasts a long time and recharges fast, so don't worry if you get interrupted while recasting.

Mantra of Earth
E: 10
T: -
R: 20
For 74 seconds, whenever you take earth damage, the damage is reduced by 44% and you gain 2 Energy.

With stone striker on, this cuts the damage you receive in half, and gives you 2 energy every time you take a hit. It's a stance and cannot be removed or interrupted by Oni, and it lasts a long time. This is one of the few skills you won't need to worry about much.

Aura of Restoration
E: 10
T: 1/4
R: 5
For 60 seconds, you are healed for 268% of the Energy cost each time you cast a Spell.

While the Oni wont do much damage to you, if any, they will make you bleed. Cast this and keep it up indefinitely to counteract the bleeding. You'll be spamming lots of skills, so this will definitely keep you alive.

The Oni

Oni are assassin monsters that spawn in groups of 3 or 4 as you walk by them. Oni Posses a wonderful skill called Demonic Agility. This skill causes all of their attacks to double strike for 30 seconds (recharge of 45). They will usually start by casting this then attacking you. This sounds bad, but their attacks should be doing zero damage to you. For each double hit, you will gain 2 additional energy, and sliver armor will trigger more often. In other words, Demonic Agility is better for you than the Oni.

The Oni have two useless skills: Scorpion Wire and Shadow Shroud. Scorpion Wire should never trigger, as neither you nor the Oni will be moving for the duration of the battle. Shadow Shroud prevents you from becoming the target of an Enchantment. It sounds like it would shut down this build, but all the enchantments used here are automatically cast on you. There is no targeting, therefore, Shadow Shroud will not affect this build.

Oni have an annoying heal in Shadow Refuge. They gain significant health regeneration for 4 seconds and then a big heal. It also recharges very fast, so they will use it often, making them very difficult to kill. When many Oni are attacking you, sliver armor and shockwave can usually overcome Shadow Refuge, but 1 on 1 can get tricky. Time it just right so you spike them to death.

The Oni have a nasty dagger combo that does not come with a happy ending. Jagged Strike starts you off with bleeding. Bleeding is what will do most of the damage to you if you aren't using Aura of Restoration. If you are, you don't have much to worry about. Next up is Fox Fangs. Unfortunately, this can't be blocked, but it won't do any damage to you. The combo ends with Horns of the Ox. This skill will knock you down and interrupt any action you were taking. More on how to combat this later.

Why farm Oni? Oni drop Monstrous Eyes, Claws and Fangs. They also drop Regurgitated Masses, which can salvage into any of those. Claws and Fangs currently sell for a lot at the rare material traders (around 1k). They are used in Necro, Monk, and Ritualist armors. Secondly, they drop Keen Oni Talons. A trader in Cavalon collects these talons, and for just two of them, you can get an item worth 125g. Oni also drop Oni Shrouds, which occaisionally have runes in them. Lastly, they drop purple and gold weapons (commonly daggers, but I've seen staffs and wands, too). Sometimes they just drop Gold and Bones, and you may even get stiffed with nothing. Overall, the drops can make you a lot of money if you're lucky.

The best place to farm these Oni at is in Maishang Hills, outside of Eredon Terrace. Star by heading south and avoiding the Island Guardian group. You'll soon come on a group of Oni. Once you kill the, head southeast. After a short jog, turn back north and you'll come upon another group. Once those guys are dead, go back to the start. This time, head west, avoiding another Island Guardian group and a fungal patrol. You'll find yourself near a resurrection shrine in a small village. Go south and you'll find other Oni spawn. After you're finished with those guys, head east. There's a Naga patrol you need to watch out for. Sneak by them and keep going east and you'll come across the final Oni spawn. Here's a map. The pink rings are the Oni spawns, the cyan rings are enemy patrols you need to watch out for.

If you get caught sneaking by the Island Guardian group on your way to the third Oni Spawn, don't worry. You'll get killed, but you'll be revived at the place you wanted to get to anyway. This build still functions at 15 and even 30 DP. Odds are, you will die a few times. Oni are hard to farm, but it can be done.

Using Your Skills:

Start at the right side of the skillbar and work your way left. Cast Aura of Restoration, Mantra of Earth, Stonestriker, then Stoneflesh Aura. Run into the Oni spawn location the put on Kinetic Armor. Attack with Stone Daggers to get their attention. They'll come over to you and start attacking. Cast Sliver Armor then star refreshing all your enchantments and stuff. After you're refreshed, pump out a Shockwave and start spamming Stone Daggers. One or two should fall from your first wave. Keep refreshing your enchants, and spam Stone Daggers to keep Kinetic Armor going. Eventually, they should all die and you can move on to the next group.

Horns of the Ox can be very deadly. An unlucky interrupt of Stoneflesh Aura can send you to an early grave. Timing is everything here, so you'll want to recast Stoneflesh when you feel confident that you won't be interrupted. First, wait until you take a hit or two from Horns of the Ox. It has a 12 second recharge, so the Oni that used it won't be able to hit you with it again for 12 seconds. If you are up against more than one Oni, you'll still run the risk of getting nailed. Still wait though, as the risk will be reduced, and you might just get hit by another Horns while you're knocked down. After getting up, cast Sliver Armor. The 52% blocking might cause Jagged Strike to miss. Fox Fangs won't miss, but Horns of the Ox can. Sliver not only does damage, but it will reduce the likeliness of you getting hit with another Horns to less than 25%.

Thanks to Tanny for helping me make this. I'm also going to post the two-man alternative which makes use of a Me/Mo for a 100% success rate.

Sounds like a pretty cool build. I'm still missing a few of the NF skills involved, but once I've got those I think all my equipment is already up to scratch for this build. Guess I'll give it a shot when I get a chance.
