What are your thoughts?

Id and Epic Mulitplatform Because of Piracy
Can PC Gaming Survive in a Console World?

I, myself admit I have pirated a few games in the past, but thats another tale for another day.

They need to follow the mmo formula of stopping piracy. Make characters weak and worthless until 100+ hours of training is complete.

I'm sure it's true, Doom 3 had like 30,000 downloads from one website because uploaded a week early from the store release date.

I used to download loads before I got a job, but now all the UK online shops are competing with discounts it makes games stupidly cheap

STALKER Collectors Edition: £16 - Recommended Retail Price: £35
Quake Wars: £17 - Recommended Retail Price: £35
Guild Wars Part 4: £18 - Recommended Retail Price: £29
Unreal Tournament 3: £15 - Recommended Retail Price: £39

The Galactic Civ 2 developers seem to have the right idea - http://forums.galciv...m...=106741&c=1

I think PC gaming is far from extinction. Look at the success of MMOs. Think of how huge the player bases of World of Warcraft, Guild Wars, Counter-Strike, Call of Duty, Battlefield 2, and RuneScape are. The only console I've ever owned was a Playstation 1, and I don't plan on buying another ever again. The other big plus about PC gaming is the ease of online play. Compared to the PC gaming giants, Halo 2 is the only console game that has a fanbase even close in size. Sure, piracy hurts profits. But, the volume of sales is more than the loss of sales through piracy. CD-Keys that are almost impossible to replicate are a great improvement that has cut back on piracy. Subscriptions also stifle piracy and keep a company afloat.
