RPG Toolkit is pretty easy to get started on, if coding isn't really your thing. It gives a bit of control, and the games you make don't require the engine in order to run.

For making an RPG, I should recommend RPG Maker XP. Didn't I gove you a site for a free trial of that on MSN? But, as Csp' said, RPG Toolkit is a good alternative, too. It's found here.

2D Single/Multiplayer, but WOW, if I could get it multiplayer 3d that would be like t3h rox...
