To everyone else... What exactly is there to really like about the Cafeteria?

Anything you'd possibly like about it was a misconception, because frankly, I don't find milestone threads, quoted chat logs, sig threads, and poll threads to be that exciting.

Because, seriously, those are what the Cafeteria was for. It was not supposed to be a "less serious General Discussion", nor a "less spammy Insanity Board".

Here is what the Cafeteria was truly all about.

Most of those were posted in General Discussion anyway, and they aren't really enough of a problem anymore to require their own forum. Since the Cafeteria was significantly dividing General Discussion's activity (maybe some remember my thread moving sprees from the Cafeteria), it was actually becoming a problem of its own.

I understand why some may have liked the Cafeteria... But it was being used no differently than either General Discussion or the Insanity Board. General Discussion isn't a "serious" forum, it's a general forum. As long as you're not posting much spam there, you can have light and entertaining discussions if you wish.

The majority of what was posted in the Cafeteria can go in General Discussion. Of about two and a half of the recent pages of the Cafeteria (when the forum was archived), I only moved three or four threads to the Insanity Board, and a few pinned threads to the Lobby. Everything else went to General Discussion.

General Discussion is what most thought the Cafeteria was.

The Cafeteria was not intended to be "General Discussion 2" or a "less serious General Discussion", nor a version of the Insanity Board that increments everyone's post count. It was for a few specific types of threads, and I don't think many realized that. Those types of threads aren't really all that exciting, and we don't need a forum dedicated to them in our current situation.

Simply put: There hasn't been a lot of new posts lately, and therefore the impact on General Discussion is significant right now. I can't tell everyone to post more (that leads to other natural issues), and recruiting seems to be everyone's least favorite thing to do, so I need to organize the forums to accomodate the activity we have in the present.

The Cafeteria can return in some form later on. It doesn't need to be permanently archived, but there will have to be a need for it. This need may easily come if activity increases again. We seriously need activity, and when we have it there won't be as much of an issue with this. We need to accomodate the activity we have, and when it increases, we'll have more flexibility in more areas than just this.

How about you stop annoying Cspace? Just drop the subject. I understand why he took it away. It makes sense. There isn't enough activity to have two separate "general" forums.

Because what many thought the Cafeteria was, is what General Discussion really is.

The Cafeteria was seriously intended to be a filter for General Discussion. It was supposed to be the place for milestone threads, quoted chat logs, sig threads, and poll threads... But it wasn't really used for them. I'm not saying anything bad about those who used the Cafeteria as "General Discussion 2" - It's just that with our level of activity, having a "General Discussion 2" will choke the actual General Discussion.

Also due to our current activity, we don't really need such a filter for the moment. I could enforce the Cafeteria's guidelines and move threads to General Discussion that would normally belong there, but by doing this I wouldn't really help anything since right now the milestone threads and such aren't a problem.

One can consider it a merge if he/she likes, but there are too many technicalities to really worry about defining what happened.

However, the Cafeteria can return later. We'll just need enough activity so the misconception won't hurt General Discussion.

It's a freaking forum change, get over it. It's not like he's taking your posting abilities away, he's just directing to different forums.

Can't believe they're that upset over something as trivial as taking away one of the 8150t98 forums we have (Yes, I do realize I put a "t" in there, the insaniTy board is so dominate, it gets it's own digit; or maybe I'm too lazy to change a typo, w/e)
