How many characters can I have?
I'm considering four now. They can interact and fight together if desired, even in a ship.

What of the trade classes?
They will probably come in the future, but not until after DS2 is going smoothly.

So what's the decision for class progression?
Your post count ("Devotion" stat) will have nothing to do with your characters' class points. Every character will have a set number to begin. That number isn't determined yet, but it will be in the vicinity of 6500. Remember that Glyphs can boost those points. To put it into perspective, a very powerful and rare Glyph will boost your points by around 3000.

So how can I progress?
GM events (quests), the wars, my own site-related contests (I often throw DS currency or items into the prize), and shops.

You said something about Devotion abilities somewhere...
Your Devotion (post count) can also affect certain abilities. Scattered among the classes will be abilities that use Devotion as some sort of multiplier or prerequisite. Obviously they'll be more effective for those who are most active. There is also one "alpha" ability per leader (deity), which uses Devotion in a big way. DON'T underestimate those abilities for someone with a high level of Devotion. bluetongue.gif When your own characters are fighting together, only one of them can use an alpha ability. That's required for balancing. The big reason for having Devotion abilities, instead of post count-determined stats, is because you can refer to your post count "on the fly" when it matters. This will save you a lot of headaches... Trust me.

Is technology superior?
No, but it has its specific strengths. It also affects your capabilities in a ship, and is important for using computer systems.

Is arcana superior?
No, because to use arcana you'll need to lower your other stats to increase affinity. Without affinity, most arcana is useless. You're probably going to want a lot of it if arcana is your thing.

Why be an enforcer or desperado?
Like technology, both have their own strengths. Both also have abilities to use in a ship.

Can I use arcana and technology?
There's no limit along those lines. Many important characters in the story will learn to use both.

Will post count still affect which ships I can get?
Yes and no. There will be similar ships that you can buy or gain by another means. Having a high post count, however, will still provide you with a fleet of ships to use.

Will fighting be more complicated?
The rules will be easier to understand. With more detailed ability descriptions, a lot of the rules page will be obsolete. Not sure of something in the rules, or something missing from the rules? If everyone in a battle agrees to something, the rules can be altered by the players during a specific battle.

How complicated will the math be?
Addition and subtraction will be the most common by far. Multiplication and division will also be around. Where Devotion is a multiplier, often there will be a decimal to make things right. Exponents may show up in one or two places. That's all there will probably be, but the Windows Calculator will still be your friend in a battle. Now that I think about it, maybe I'll put a sine curve into an ability just to annoy people. biglaugh.gif

Hope I answered some questions, and hopefully some of the changes will be more enjoyable. This is a difficult system to balance, but I'll get it right. When I start dwelling on balancing though, slap some sense into me with a trout (like Neraphym did a couple hours ago thumb.gif ).

Where's the BETA? sad.gif

There won't be a beta of DS2, because it's just a new system for the current DS. No coding, just content (and a lot of it). bluetongue.gif

You're probably thinking of Age of Arcana, which I'm doing with DirectX and mostly from scratch. It's actually the sequel to DS, but I'm just calling the new system "DS2" for simplicity. It'll be a long time before AoA comes, but there will be a beta when it's ready.
