We're trying to push our community and guild back toward being active. Seriously, I mean it this time.

... But the big impact will be made by open recruiting in our factions (except in Guild Wars where there's a member limit). This can be done in Runescape, EverQuest II, XBox Live, WoW, and really in anything else that's online. If you'd like to start a faction, just PM me, I may make exceptions to the five-member-requirement for now as long as the game has guild support.
But why open recruiting? Isn't that evil?

No, it's really not... It all depends on how you do it. Walking around shouting "Want to join a guild? PST" won't really be ideal. Something like "The guild [...] is recruiting... We're a casual, friendly, and mature guild that [...]" works better. Tells, whispers, private messages, or whatever other form of private messaging can also be effective if one's careful. Stay away from spamming mail in games that support it. Also, anyone who's seeking a guild should be contacted unless something doesn't seem right. Lastly, there's nothing wrong with inviting new players... They'll get stronger eventually if they keep playing.

After all, if the description is good, how is "open recruiting" any different than posting guild advertisements on public forums? There's no difference... Both will reach random players. The description is everything: It could appeal to those we would seek, and would not appeal to those who would give us a hard time. You don't want to appeal to everybody, but a guild should want to be heard.
No, it's not without potential issues. Any problems caused by open recruiting can be short-term, and are often minor. Compared to the vastly greater benefit of recruiting for activity, we shouldn't even worry about it. We didn't even give it a second thought before 2003... The only reason we slowed down with the open recruiting in 2003 and 2004 was because we were large enough to support ourselves with more selective means. Something had to be done to actually get to that point, and we can do it again today.

So let's take this a step at a time. Right now we're focusing on bringing back as many of our old members as possible, because most would probably like having our guild together again. Then we should think about recruiting our friends, even if only for CurvedSpace and not a faction. Hey, if you do, you'll have more friends here.

So if you'd like to help your guild and community, this is your calling right now.

I truly hope you answer...
