| Leveling up Fishing and Cooking. By Grimbold NOTE: The fish market sucks these days. Supply is through the roof, and demand is really low. It's hard to sell fish, so if you want to make money, this probably isn't the best skill to do. This covers leveling up Fishing and FISH cooking together, not Cooking separately. First Tip: NEVER fish for fish that need to be baited. Two-click fishing takes longer, so there really is no point in baited fish. Second Tip: When fishing for the higher-level fish(Tunas and up), I would suggest being at least 5 levels above the min. level required. Otherwise, you don't get the fish very often(though you still won't even at 5, I did 10 levels. I will use 5 for this guide). Major Locations (with pictures): Barbarian Village: ![]() One Bait, Lure spot. Nearby Barbarian Inn has ever-buring fires. Nearest bank is Varrock or Edgeville. Fairly popular. Catherby: ![]() Two Net, Bait spot. One Harpoon, Cage spot. 4 Big Net, Harpoon (sharks only) spots. A range and a bank are very close. This is the most popular P2P place to fish, aside from the Fishing Guild. Draynor Village: ![]() Three Net, Bait spots. A bank is close, but bring a hatchet and tinderbox if you play to cook. This is somewhat popular. Karamja: ![]() Three Net, Bait spots. Three Cage, Harpoon spots. The nearest bank is Draynor or Falador, and the nearest cooking is a lone tree near the dock with the ship. This is, to my knowledge, the only place to fish for lobsters and swordfish on F2P, and as such, the most popular fishing spot in all of RuneScape. Lumbridge: ![]() Two Bait, Lure spots. Nearest bank is in Al Kharid or Draynor Village, and nearest range is Lumbridge Castle. Trees are right next to you though. Popular. Minor Locations: Al Kharid: Located to the far south, there is a Net, Bait spot. Range in the witch's house, and bank is Al Kharid Bank. Brimhaven: One Cage, Harpoon spot below the bar. Nearest cooking is in the Shrimp and Parrot, and nearest bank is Ardougne. Gnome Stronghold: The river that runs through the Gnome Stronghold is teeming with nearly every type of fish. A close bank, and nearby trees make this a decent fishing spot. Bandit's Camp: There is a Net, Bait spot in the little lake. Really only good for adding anchovies to your pizza. NOTE: There are many other fishing spots that aren't even worthy of mention, because they are so remote, don't have good fish, etc. Just look at the RuneScape World Map to see most of them. Leveling up: Levels 1-20: Net fish, cook, and drop. Good Locations: Karamja, Draynor Village. No preference here. Levels 20-40: Lure fish, cook, and drop. Good Locations: Lumbridge, Barbarian Village. Here I would have to say Lumbridge. While the Barbarian Inn's fires are slightly closer than the Cook's Range in Lumbridge Castle, the Cook's Range gives you an increased chance to succeed. Which, in turn, means more cooking exp. Levels 40-55: Tunas. All the way. Good Locations: Karamja if you are f2p, Catherby if p2p. At Karamja, its your choice whether or not to bank. I did, because Tunas are a very good food to train with. Catherby, defiantly bank. Catherby is much easier because there is a range very close. Karamja, you will need to bring an axe and tinderbox. Levels 55-65: Your choice here. What I did was fish and cook lobsters in Catherby. F2p, I would suggest either Lobsters or Swordfish at Karamja. If you go Swordies, cook the Tunas that you get, and drop them. Levels 65-73: Become a member if you aren't already, buy a few fishing pots, and go to the Fishing Guild. Fish Lobsters, cook, and cert. A good use out of a dose of Fishing Potion(if you have other stuff to do on RS) is 30-50 Lobster certs. Level 73+: Sharks. Buy a lot of Fishing Potions, go to Catherby, and get those Sharks! Leveling up quickly (from any level): Get several thousand feathers, and bait fish somewhere (Barbarian Village, Draynor Village, Lumbridge, even Al Kharid). Cooking takes more time, but if you want the exp, do it. Big Net Fishing The main place to fish with big nets is Catherby. As well as catching Mackeral, Cod, and Bass, you can catch gloves, boots, oysters, and caskets. You may get up to 5 fish at a time while fishing with this. Oysters may contain oyster pearls, you use a chisel on the shell with pearls in to get them out (34 flecthing required). You can attatch these to the end of crossbow bolts. Caskets may contain GP, uncut gems, and half keys. Sometimes you get nothing, in them at all! You get 10xp for fishing them. Current Prices(as of September 26, 2003): NOTE: As of September 26, 2003, fish certificates are very hard to sell. Raw or Cooked Lobster Certs: 1-1.5k Raw or Cooked Swordfish Certs: 2k Raw or Cooked Bass Certs: Very hard to sell, but I'm guessing around 3k? Someone help me out on this. Raw or Cooked Shark Certs: 4-5k Level Chart: Name_____Fishing lvl__Fishing exp__Cooking lvl__Cooking exp__Heals Shrimp_______1__________10__________1__________30________3 Sardine ______5__________20__________1__________40________4 Herring______10__________30__________5__________50________5 Mackerel* ___16__________20_________15__________60________6 Anchovy_____15__________40_________15__________30________3 Trout________20__________50_________15__________70________7 Cod*________24__________45_________18__________75________7 Pike_________25__________60_________20__________80________8 Salmon______30__________70_________25__________90________9 Tuna________35__________80_________30__________100_______10 Lobster______40__________90_________40__________120_______12 Bass*_______46__________100________42__________130_______13 Swordfish____50__________100________45__________140_______14 Lava Eel*____53___________30________53__________140_______14 Shark*______76__________110________80__________210_______20 Sea Turtle** _80__________105________82__________212_______20 Manta Ray** 82__________115_________91__________216_______21 * Members' Only ** Fishing Trawler Only (Member) Note: on Lava Eels. These are a quest item, and as such, un-tradable. ![]() Raw Manta RayEveryone feel free to give me suggestions, or inform me of incorrect info. The Fishing Guild: ![]() Contains: Certificate traders for Lobster, Swordfish, Bass, and Shark. Small fishing store, which deals in basic supplies, raw fish up to swordfish, and cooked fish up to lobster. A Range (stove). Respawns of Harpoons, Lobster Pots, and Big Nets. 2 Big Net, Harpoon (sharks only) spots. 2 Harpoon (sharks only), Big Net spots. 2 Harpoon, Cage spots. 2 Cage, Harpoon spots. Cooking only: Get your cooking up to 65 (and magic to 56) and get cooking gauntlets if you are on members. If you are F2P, or don't want to get the gauntlets, get to 75 cooking. Then buy raw lobster certificates for 1k each. Cook them, then sell for 1k or 1.1k each. With the fish market the way it is these days, this isn't a worthwhile enterprise. It'll take you a good amount of time to be able to sell the cooked ones for even 1k (unless you get really lucky:P). I've noticed that there seems to be five fish in any given spot, and amount of people affects respawn time. I did this by going to the Gnome Stronghold, and Harpooning. I got five fish, then couldn't get any for quite some time. Anyone else notice this? |
(note to self: tell cspace to make a table from XP on site)

There will be a seprate cooking guide, with fish as well. But these will stay here.

Wow that is an excellent guide I would give it a 10/10 (though i am hardly an expert on guides or ideas). Oh and don't forget to add where to get lava eels (p2p) some people do not know and remind them to bring bait. I forgot bait once and it wasn't pretty
. Like i said overall a great guide
